Naming of Oil & Gas Fields

Fields tend to be named after a certain theme:

  • Mountains (Lawit, Larut, Bintang (not hill!), Jerneh, Seligi) – ExxonMobil convention.
  • Flowers – Bunga Orkid, Bunga Raya, Bunga Kertah (I think Bunga Kertas is the name of a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facility, FPSO).
  • Fish – Kikeh.
  • Birds – Helang, Layang
  • Precious Stones – Ruby, Pearl, these are Vietnamese fields.
  • Storms (I’m guessing here) – Patricia, South Furious  (or could it be ladies?)
