Malaysia picks new chairman for state-run Petronas

Malaysia has appointed Mohd Bakke Salleh as the chairman of state energy firm Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), the prime minister’s office said on Monday.

The change comes as Petronas is recovering from a demand slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mohd Bakke will replace Ahmad Nizam Salleh, who had served as chairman since 2018, effective Aug. 1.


Petronas says still negotiating with Sarawak, Putrajaya over petroleum tax payment

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is still negotiating with Sarawak government with regard to payment of the five per cent petroleum products sales tax that it owes to the state, said its chairman Datuk Ahmad Nizam Salleh.

He said the negotiations also involved the federal government.

Malaysia has appointed Ahmad Nizam Salleh as the new chairman of state-owned oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) effective immediately, the prime minister’s office said on Wednesday.

Ahmad Nizam has spent most of his 37-year career in the oil and gas industry at Petronas, the office said, and replaces Sidek Hassan.
