Pakatan launches greener transport policy with five thrusts, 23 strategies

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government unveiled today the National Transport Policy (NTP) 2019-2030 that has sustainability at its core.

The blueprint emphasises five key policies and 23 supporting strategies towards the development of a holistic transportation plan for the country.

Under the NTP, the government aims to create a conducive environment for the transport sector; optimise, build and maintain transport infrastructure, services and networks to maximise efficiency; and enhance safety, integration, connectivity and accessibility for seamless passengers and goods movement.

Petrol dealers warn of negative impact from floating RON95 price

PETROL dealers worry that the government’s decision to float the retail price of RON95 starting next year under the weekly pricing mechanism will force operators to incur losses.

Fuel pumps operators said their losses would widen especially when global oil prices rise.

Bumiputera Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (Bumipeda) president Datuk Abu Samah Bachik said a weekly float system would have adverse effects on the dealers because they would not be able to plan in advance the amount of fuel stock needed.

He urged the government to not rush into the implementation of the system because many sectors will be affected.

“We (the traders) will buy one week stock of fuel. But if the float system is implemented weekly, we might have to sell fuel for a much lower price compared to when it was purchased because of the drop in prices,” he told The Malaysian Reserve.

Poor payment practices, weak enforcement reason behind RM1.71b leakage for cooking gas subsidy

“Leakages” sounds like the subsidy program is incontinent. Just say ‘theft’, ‘treason’. But will probably happen about the time ‘haze’ is called ‘blasted large-scale smoke’.

The National Audit Department has revealed some RM1.71 billion in leakages have occurred from the management of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidy by three ministries and agencies since the end of 2017.

In the Auditor-General’s (A-G) Report 2018 Series 1 on the activities of federal ministries, agencies, and statutory bodies, it stated the leakages were due to the use of government-subsidised LPG cylinders by consumers who are not from the target social categories.

Fuel subsidy card for middle income earners ready by next March, says finance minister

Lim Guan Eng today said the fuel subsidy card for Malaysian middle-income earners, grouped as M40, will be rolled out from March 2020.

The finance minister said the fuel subsidy will be pumped through the special card Kad95.
“For the M40, it will be ready in March and we will use the card. We are studying it right now and once the mechanism is ready and completed, we will make an announcement,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the International Directors Summit 2019 here.

Adif Zulkifli is set to take over the duty of former Petroliam Nasional Bhd executive vice president (EVP) and chief executive officer (CEO) of upstream Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib from Wednesday.

The appointment is one of a few management changes made by the national oil and gas giant after Anuar’s recent departure, according to an internal memo seen by the New Straits Times.

Adif is currently Petronas EVP and CEO of gas and new energy business and will vacate the position for Adnan Zainol Abidin, according to the memo.

Minister says RON95 subsidy nearly RM100m a week at current oil price

Why not subsidise, enforce and improve public transport? I think RM100m a week can go a long way to enforce rules, plus the sweet, sweet money from fines, penalties, product placement, and influencer endorsement.

The price ceiling for RON95 petrol required a subsidy of almost RM100 million per week at the prevailing oil price, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“Concerning the weekly cost to maintain the price of RON95 petrol at RM2.08 a litre, the Finance Ministry estimates an amount of RM99.76 million is needed to maintain the retail price of RON95,” he said during Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat this morning.

The research and development (R&D) push by the government comes at a time when the global oil and gas (O&G) industry is bracing for a bearish year in 2020, as supply and demand balances show persistent surpluses against a slowing global economy, Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation said.

Deputy chief executive officer Mohd Yazid Ja’afar said the US-China trade war is deepening and oil majors continue to demand for cost effective and low-carbon technologies.

Oil royalty paid as before, Azmin tells Kelantan

Rakan Segari wants written guarantee on cancellation of refinery project

Rakan Segari, a coalition of several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), is working with the fishing community and residents here in the hope of getting a written assurance from the state government that no oil refinery will be developed in Segari.

Its representative Meor Razak Meor Abdul Rahman, who is also Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) researcher, said although Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu had issued a statement, there was no guarantee it would not be built.

With strong reserves in natural gas and crude oil, Sabah and Sarawak are to strengthen their relationships in the oil and gas industry and capitalise on Indonesia setting up its new capital in Kalimantan, the chief ministers of the two states said today.

Sabah chief minister Shafie Apdal and his visiting Sarawak counterpart Abang Johari Openg said they were eager to solidify their working relationship in the oil and gas industry, which is crucial to both economies.

Shafie said the two states share common interests and could transform their social economies if they combined their strengths.
