Maybank IB remain positive on O&G services

October 16, 2014

Dateline 2014-08-05, The Sun Daily:

Maybank IB Research has maintained its overweight call on the oil and gas (O&G) services sector following a roadshow in July when it had discussions with fund managers from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. “We remain overall positive on the O&G services sector. We like KNM for its direct exposure to Refinery And Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid). Securing Rapid projects would lift our earnings and target price by up to 50%. Getting the Peterborough waste-to-energy project off the ground in Q4 2014 could drive further interest and re-rate the stock further,” it said in its research note yesterday. For OSV exposure, its top picks are Perdana Petroleum and Ezion, while UMW OG and Yinson are its top picks for jack-up rigs and FPSOs respectively. Nam Cheong and Vard are its preferred stocks in shipbuilding while SILK and Coastal Contracts are interesting from the perspective of value and earnings growth potential. …

New O&G group aims to help Sabah firms get bigger slice of industry pie

October 14, 2014

I pronounce MOGSC as Mog-see. SOGSC, Sog-gy? And how come there is no mention of MOGSC in the article?

Dateline 2014-08-02, Malay Mail:

A newly-formed group is aiming to provide oil-and-gas sector suppliers in Sabah with the needed skills and contacts to tap into the industry that offers tens of billions of ringgit in jobs.

Calling itself the Sabah Oil and Gas Services Council (SOGSC), it says it will aggressively conduct technical programmes in collaboration with key industry players such as Petronas to enable members to gain the expertise to service such companies.

“The potential for Sabah’s oil and gas industry is extremely high, and we need to leverage this to better benefit Sabahan service providers.

“Currently they are not well-equipped with the right skills and knowledge to support the industry and jobs are going out to foreign companies from West Malaysia and elsewhere,” said SOGSC secretary Willie Ng during a press conference here today.

MOGEC Shout Out – Full-Day HAZOP Training For Team Members – A Practical Approach

October 13, 2014

MOGEC will be hosting a 1 day course (our first in my memory) on the 28th October, 2014. It is worth 6.5 CPD points, and held at Saloma Bistro. Since I’m giving it, I expect hoards will have to be turned away at the gates.

A Hazard and Operability study is a formal and systematic and detailed examination of the process and engineering intentions of new or existing facilities which assesses the hazard potential and effects on the facility as a whole when operation is outside of the design envelope, or individual items of equipment malfunction.

At the end of the session, the participants should:

  • Understand the responsibilities of all parties in the HAZOP
  • Have experience in a HAZOP session.
  • Understand the outcomes from a HAZOP session

The Centre of Research in EOR was established in Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in year 2006 to promote excellence in EOR research that mostly addresses the needs of industry and to manage laboratory services. Research in the area has continuously expanded at UTP since 2006. Most EOR research projects are conducted by the petroleum engineering staff and the topics are mostly conventional topics such as subsurface fluid flow, rock fluid interactions etc. In addition, there is an increasing interest from non-petroleum engineering researching EOR chemicals, application of waves, advanced materials among others.

Dateline 2014-08-01, Malaysia Chronicle:

George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd, which is tendering for RM15 billion worth of jobs including those for the mass rapid transit (MRT) line 2 project, is looking to diversify its presence into the oil and gas sector.

Speaking to reporters after the company’s AGM and EGM here yesterday, its chairman Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock  said it is still studying the proposal to tap into the oil and gas industry, but will start with the service engineering segment.

“We want to go into the oil and gas sector, but with the right space and target,” he stressed, declining to elaborate further.

Tan explained however that the oil and gas sector is not a new venture for the group considering that it used to have supply services to petrol pumps around the country.
