Shell excel in oil extraction from Sabah deepwaters

December 19, 2017

Is this an advertorial?

Dateline 2017-11-07, NST:

As Sabah contributes about 50 per cent of the country’s oil production and with 60 per cent of production in the state comes from Shell, the oil company hopes to keep oil production competitive and growing sustainably in the next years to come.

Sabah Shell petroleum company general manager Ian Lim said Shell is doing well in oil production performance over the years, particularly in Sabah deep water.

“Within the Shell group, we compete very well. One of the things we are proud of is that in a lot of internal conversation, whenever we talk about business, we talk about which team and asset is producing well.

“The word Sabah deepwaters shows up and it’s really a proud moment as well as recognition to the team and where we are at. Of course, there is still improvement to be made but Shell is on (the right) track,” he said.

Saturday Star 2017-12-16 – Job Opportunities

December 18, 2017

Happy still on vacation week. IGL has pivoted into training, so book your seats now.

We’re thinking of republishing Young Turks of PETRONAS, but it’s a minimum 500 book printing run. Do I have enough interested persons to purchase?

Donate to your favorite charity (me), buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (3 books until I can get YTP republished). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me, my camera dive case flooded, and I need a new replacement. Heck, if you want to send me a Canon 5D Mk III plus dive case, I will not say no.

  • I have a feeling that The Star isn’t the preferred O&G job recruitment portal now, and they have moved adverts to another online presence (I bought a dead tree edition this week). I see more adverts via social media. What do you think, is it a step change that the papers need to embrace?
  • I’m looking for jobs for 1Q2018. Send me your POs.

Food choice of the week? Support your local mee bandung.

Brighter prospects ahead for the oil and gas sector

December 12, 2017

I have been reliably informed that SOGEC is not related to MOGEC, or MOGSC. Lesson learnt: go register trademarks before someone beats you to the punch.

Dateline 2017-10-28, NST:

The government has done much to ensure people in the four oil and gas producing states in Malaysia are actively involved in the sector.

Sabah Oil and Gas Services Council vice chairman Datuk Albert Boyou said a review of the royalty would do no harm but there is more that can be tapped from the industry.

In Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman has been instrumental in pushing for greater participation in the oil and gas sector through Petronas as well as provide opportunities for more people in the state, he said.

“Previously this was hardly the case and opportunities in the sector were hard to come by,” he said adding this was evident with the development of the many major projects that came since Musa took office in 2003.

Key developments in the state include Sabah Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) which has attracted RM11 billion in investments, Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) in Kimanis as well as the 500km Sabah, Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) that links Bintulu, Sarawak.

Malaysia’s Yinson Holdings In Talks To Buy TH Heavy Engineering’s FPSO

December 9, 2017

Come on, Sabah International Petroleum. Where you at?

Dateline 2017-10-27, Nikkei Asian Review:

Malaysian oil and gas services company Yinson Holdings is in “exploratory talks” with TH Heavy Engineering to buy the company’s floating production storage and offloading unit, its chief executive said Friday.

The talks come as Yinson looks at opportunities to invest in “distressed” oil and gas companies, Lim Chern Yuan told Nikkei Markets. There could be other deals in the pipeline, he said.

The company “sits on about 600 million ringgit ($141.49 million) in cash” to back potential acquisitions, and will not “have a problem raising capital” should the need arise, Lim said.

Analysts: No major changes from Petronas’ cautious approach

December 7, 2017

In other words: those with connections, are embiggened, those without, change a few letters.

Dateline 2017-10-24, Borneo Post:

Analysts expect no significant changes from Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) cautious approach to upstream exploration and development expenditures .

According to AmInvestment Bank Bhd (AmInvestment Bank), persistently low asset utilisation levels are anticipated for the medium term in the oil and gas sector as the research firm did not expect any significant change in Petronas’ cautious approach to upstream exploration and development expenditures.

AmInvestment Bank noted that for the second quarter of 2017 (2Q17) to date, contract awards have risen by 15 per cent quarter on quarter (q-o-q) RM2.2 billion largely due to the lumpy award of the RM1 billion Bokor central processing platform project to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd (MMHE).

PIPC to garner RM8.3 billion income by 2020

December 5, 2017

So… where does 1MDB fit into this? Note that these are investments, not projected profit, so in theory, much easier to (ahem) integrate the funds into strategic investments to sustain interest by unnamed persons of interest.

Dateline 2017-10-24, NST:

Investments in the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) are expected to generate RM8.3 billion to the country’s Gross National Income (GNI) by 2020.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said of the amount, the Petronas’s Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) would be the biggest contributor in the oil and gas hub.

“PIPC is a strategically important project for the government. PIC, which I consider as the heart of the PIPC, will play a role to encourage new growth under the country’s Economic Transformation Programme.

(Update) PIPC to garner RM8.3 billion income by 2020

November 30, 2017

“This will eventually create the basis for a more dynamic and progressive oil and gas downstream industries in Malaysia in the future.

“PIC is expected to generate a rapid growth in the development of the value chain of the downstream industry,” said Najib, adding that he was informed that as at the end of September, the PIC was 77 per cent completed.
