Oily magical prowlers haunt Malaysian town

January 11, 2012

Yes, nothing to do with normal oil & gas. Still, it’s Malaysian, it’s got ‘oil’ in the title, and it’s a gas.

Dateline 2012-01-01:

In the Malaysian town of Kampung Laksamana, reports of a supernatural creature known as the orang minyak (or “oily man”) have caused residents to form neighborhood watches.

Marketing Rounds – Where is the Darn Car?

January 10, 2012

As you get older, the memory starts to lose that sharp edge. So, I’ve taken photos of parking pillars as I go round town, sometimes to collect debts, sometimes to start them. Don’t ask me where these places are, I have no idea…

Join the community of drivers in your area today!” It’s definitely getting better for the Klang Valley area, though we need more users from East Malaysia.

Berita Wilayah – Year Of Rabbit Is Active Year For Petronas In Sabah

January 5, 2012

Dateline 2011-12-31:

2011 was an active year for Petronas with the national oil company increasing its presence in Sabah and re-energising the state’s oil and gas industry.

Petronas this year announced a whopping investment and its commitment to a combined capital expenditure of RM45 billion to implement an integrated oil and gas master plan for Sabah, involving the development of several upstream and downstream projects over the next few years.

The announcement received positive reactions and all-round support from the majority of the people and state leaders alike, although some said there was still room for improvement in Petronas’ presence in Sabah.

On Aug 4, Petronas general manager for Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Joseph Podtung, said some of these projects had already started while others were expected to commence soon.

AsiaOne Motoring – 3/4-tank rule for CNG cars from Sunday

January 4, 2012

Dateline 2011-12-28:

OWNERS of cars which run on compressed natural gas (CNG) will soon have to pay more for their fuel. They will also have to comply with the three-quarter-tank rule when travelling into Malaysia.

A 20 cents per kg excise duty on CNG will be levied at all gas pumps from Jan 1, a move announced in Budget 2009.

CNG car owners will still pay less duty than petrol-vehicle owners, who pay 41 cents per kg in duty for most grades of petrol.

The three-quarter-tank rule, which currently applies only to petrol vehicles registered in Singapore, will also apply to CNG cars from Jan 1, said Singapore Customs yesterday

From Borneo Post – Possible recovery for oil and gas sector in 2012

January 3, 2012

What exactly are we recovering from? Gemusut Kakap, hahahahahaha.

Dateline 2011-12-28:

Recovery for the oil and gas (O&G) sector may be in the pipeline next year in view of key potential tie-ups and new marginal oilfields to provide order book replenishment over the next few years.

Elaborating on this, OSK Research Sdn Bhd (OSK Research) in its recent report remarked, “We expect new contract awards, especially for the new marginal oilfields as well as the development of the existing marginal oilfields to start by the second half of 2012 (2H12) and peak well into 2016.

“By 2013, we should see some overlapping of shallow waters, marginal oilfields and deepwater activities, with the kick-starting of the Gemusut Kakap deepwater production.”

As of now, the first discharge shipment into the terminal in Malaysia’s southern Johor state has yet to be fixed.

The other six tanks at the terminal have already received DOSH’s approval in mid-2010.

From Bloomberg – Boustead Keen on Exxon Malaysia Assets If San Miguel Fails

December 27, 2011

Dateline 2011-12-22:

Boustead Holdings Bhd. (BOUS), a Malaysian plantations, engineering and financial services group, is still interested in buying Exxon Mobil Corp.’s oil and gas assets in the Southeast Asian nation if San Miguel Corp. (SMC)’s planned acquisition falls through, Group Managing Director Lodin Wok Kamaruddin said.

Exxon agreed in August to sell its entire 65 percent stake in Esso Malaysia Bhd. (ESSO) and some other assets in the country to the Philippine beer-maker for $610 million. While this won Malaysian government approval last month, the transaction has yet to be concluded.
