“Yes, we are very happy with Petronas’ role in Sabah and this is the very reason why we formed SOGCA because we believe Petronas is well managed.

From The Star – Conserve Energy and Reduce Costs

September 29, 2011

Dateline 2011-09-20:

Energy-efficient appliances not only pare down electricity bills, they reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power generation too.

AT the height of the oil crisis in the 1970s, renewable energy and energy efficiency (EE) were touted as Malaysia’s fifth fuel. However, the discovery of substantial deposits of oil and natural gas in the 1980s relegated EE issues to the back burner in no time.

The promotion of EE was “renewed” in the 1990s by the Electricity and Gas Supply Department (EGSD) and the Ministry of Energy (now the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, or KeTTHA). Some regulations on EE were drafted then but were not implemented due to “legal issues”.

A fire at a shore-to-ship delivery pump at the Esso oil refinery here early Thursday morning saw workers running for their lives and flames visible from 2km away.

The fire, which started about 1am, was put out about three hours later and prevented from spreading to two oil refinery tanks and a nearby LPG bottling plant, said Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue director Saadon Mokhtar.

He added that 32 firemen and 24 fire-fighters from Esso and Shell used foam to put out the burning nafta petroleum.

From the Edge – Boustead takes on ExxonMobil over assets sale

September 16, 2011

Dateline 2011-09-07:

Conglomerate Boustead Holdings Bhd has emerged to defend details of its unsuccessful bid to acquire a controlling stake in Esso Malaysia Bhd as the latter’s major shareholder, US oil and gas giant ExxonMobil Corp, last month inked a deal to dispose of its stake to Philippines-based food and beverage giant San Miguel Corp.

Boustead’s announcement yesterday saw Esso Malaysia’s share price up 16 sen to close at RM3.67 on speculation that the fight for control of its assets, which include the chain of petrol kiosk and a refinery, is far from over.

The deal attracted significant media and investor interest, with the crux of the dispute being the suitor’s plans for ExxonMobil’s assets, particularly the refinery in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan and whether Boustead’s offer was inferior to that of San Miguel, whose proposal was accepted by ExxonMobil Corp.
