PETRONAS Corporate Anthem

November 8, 2009

Ah, found one of the best kept secrets in PETRONAS, its theme song. As taken from here:

PETRONAS MAJU JAYA

KEMEGAHAN NEGARA KITA

SEMERBAK NAMA SELURUH DUNIA

PETRONAS MAJU JAYA

CITA RAKYAT KAMI PEGANG TEGUH

AMANAH NEGARA DIPATUH

KAMI USAHA SETULUS HATI

CEKAL TABAH IKRAR KAMI

KAMI BERJUANG BERGANDING BAHU

ERAT MUAFAKAT BERSATU PADU

MOHON RESTU ALLAH YANG ESA

MALAYSIA MAKMUR SEJAHTERA

PETRONAS MAJU JAYA

KEMEGAHAN NEGARA KITA

SEMERBAK NAMA SELURUH DUNIA

PETRONAS MAJU JAYA!!!

Now for the other two: TM and TNB.

From the Star – Govt may be pressured to review prices of petrol

November 7, 2009

From the Star, dateline 2009-10-23:

Crude oil prices up 15% since start of October

PETALING JAYA: Rising crude oil prices in the international market may up the pressure on the Government to review local pump prices to rein in the country’s huge fuel subsidy bill.

Crude oil yesterday retreated from a high of US$82 per barrel hit in New York overnight, but remained above the US$80 mark during Asian trading hours yesterday.

At the current level, crude oil had surged 15% since the start of October and more than doubled from a low of US$34 per barrel in March.

And just in time for the next general elections.

Training in Nagoya – Durian Session

Another reason why training courses should be held in the tropics. Apologies, my Nokia N86 wasn’t up to challenge of taking photos in the dimly lit back alleys of Nagoya, Batam.

From the Sun – ExxonMobil gives RM150,000 in research grants

November 4, 2009

Taken from Sun2Surf, dateline 2009-10-27:

AS part of its continuous efforts to promote research and development in the energy industry, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc recently awarded RM150,000 in research grants to four public universities.

The grants, worth RM30,000 each, will fund these research projects:

  • Study of corrosion activities using conductive paint in Malaysian seawater” by Dr Ahmad Azmin Mohamad and Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Arif of Universiti Sains Malaysia’s School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering;
  • Outbreak detection in oil and gas pollution using the sequential rules mining approach” by Assoc Prof Dr Azuraliza Abu Bakar of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Faculty of Information Science and Technology;
  • Stabilisation and solidification of petroleum-based waste using cement as a main binder” by Prof Dr Mohd Ghazaly Shaaban of the Civil Engineering Department of Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Engineering;
  • Removal of drilling fluid filter cake using micro-organisms” by Assoc Prof Issham Ismail, Assoc Prof Dr Rosli Illias, and Assoc Prof Dr Firdausi Razali of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering; and
  • Development of low-cost sorbents from agro-waste for mercury removal from oil and gas industry” by Assoc Prof Dr Hanapi Mat of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering.

I need to create a long winded title with Google keywords to hope getting a grant. Hey, did ExxonMobil use Google and keywords to find these projects.

For those who got the grant, congratulations.

From the Star – Petronas awards two offshore contracts

November 3, 2009

From the Star, dateline 2009-10-27 (I’ve been away, okay?):

PETALING JAYA: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) awarded two production sharing contracts (PSCs) for Block SB309 and Block SB310 offshore Sabah with an estimated minimum financial commitment of US$75mil and US$117mil respectively yesterday.

In a statement, Petronas said the PSCs were awarded to a partnership between its exploration and production arm Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Talisman Energy Inc’s wholly owned subsidiary, Talisman Malaysia Ltd.

Talisman Energy is a global, diversified, upstream oil and gas company headquartered in Canada.

Under the terms of the PSCs, Talisman Malaysia, with participating interest of 70% in each block, will operate both blocks.

Here’s something to follow up in the year, ooh maybe 2012 (3 years exploration rights, I assume).

And why does everyone spell PETRONAS with lower case? Non-O&G reporters…

Next upgrade to the Synergy villa.

Trip to Jakarta – Ambhara Hotel

October 31, 2009

Doing my marketing rounds, fate had it that I spend a few nights at the Ambhara Hotel, across the road from Pasaraya Blok M. Prior to this, I didn’t even notice there was a hotel there. It was designed in the old school style, lots of marble, overstuffed sofas, and an afternoon tea cart in the lobby.

Gotta stay there again during my next trip.

Training in Nagoya – Nagoya Hill

October 30, 2009

As Wata and team stretch their minds (and the instructor’s patience) in Nagoya, Batam, Indonesia, the nights were spent exploring the place. One of the locations I can publicly disclose is the Nagoya Hill Mall.
