    of course there was no the star or new straits times last saturday because of deepavali…the girl in 7-11 told me…no wonder the newspaper racks were half empty

  2. warlock says:

    Mr Wata,

    Any opening for fresh graduates / entry level position?
    Thank you.

  3. mr_kedejik says:

    Hello Mr.Wata.

    I am the new reader to your blog which is suggest from my friend.

    I am a fresh gaduate of mechanical engineering and majoring in petroleum engineering with almost 1 year experience in Project Management work for construction of topside.

    Previously i am having my internship with the construction company at Pasir Gudang,Johor.

    So.. I need to ask you is there any working oppurtunity for me ? Even I may have a little experience in PMT, but I believe I have a very good attitude and skills needed in the OnG industry to be a good engineer.

    Thank you..

    • Wata says:

      mr_kedejik: O&G is going through a slow phase at the moment. My opinion is that for the next few months, everyone will be trying to rehire the people they let go 6 months ago. Newbies will be low on the list, kinda below the tea lady. My suggestion: stay where you are, keep applying, market yourself, and keep a positive outlook.

    • Jabbathehutt says:

      How many managers are there in KL? everyone wants to be a project management team (PMT) member.

      Even the guy selling DVD is an executive manager for the DVD shop

      I think 95% are managers;

      farmers = plant managers
      breeders = livestock manager
      mechanics = engine manager
      plumber = sewage manager
      my housemaid = house manager
      gardener = garden manager
      beggar = street finance manager

      that’s the PMT around my house.

  4. zzeed says:

    No I&C? Sigh.

    I could land a job easier if i were a reservoir engr isn’t it.

    Sigh again.

  5. hailina says:

    i’m currently seeking vacancy for geophysicist n ur blog help much..have 3 years experiences but still consider new in oil n gas..got to find more experiences n new challanges in this business..

  6. Jabbathehutt says:

    Geophysicist is below the mech engineer and tea lady.

    I wonder, how many geophysicist a company needs. you got 11 oil and gas major, each company takes 100 geophysicist, that’s 1100.

    You got at least 1100 geophysicist graduates every year. what do we do with the extras? I guess they’ll be digging for mud/water/sewage/mineral?

    • hailina says:

      Dear Jabbathehut,

      nowaday not oil n gas only need geophysicists..even construction, mining and energy sectors do need them. at malaysia only UM, USM, UMS and UKM produces geo’s. they will be okay lor..there are also opputunities to works abroad..

      • JabbatheHutt says:

        then i guess geophysicist should only think about oil and gas.

        everyone wants to work with O&G company. just know that opportunity is limited

        working out of the country is difficult. no one wants to pay RM3000-RM5000 to arrange a work permit for a fresh graduate.

  7. tobleron_gal says:

    not sure about this tompel. i’ve been approached by this kind of mat salleh recruiters many times. bull of the bull. apply to the company straight away is more promising.

  8. Rig Rat says:

    Wata

    Graduates are certainly below the janitor. If they (your employer) wanted you to clean toilets, you got to be prepared to do it reason: they paid you measely MYR 2000 (that is if you are lucky!!!).

    Rather go and be a roughneck!!!

  9. Rig Rat says:

    Some of the geology grads end up as mudloggers/pore pressure engineers or MWD/LWD hands in the oilfield.

    You start your career as a sample catcher and progress to mudlogger then to pressure engineer.

  10. Rig Rat says:

    PM3 South (Block 304 Bunga Raya field) sounds like Talisman.

    Are they on a complete personnel changeout or what?

    Well at least it will provide for more qualified Malaysian that can do the job.

    • Anoni says:

      They won new contract don’t they? Couple friends have already left going back… to Talisman… But it still makes me wonder… if it’s true the ad is from Talisman, looks like they need a shitload of people as if to start a new company…

      Not going to ask the many friends I have there…

  11. Tali Kapal says:

    mudlogger-mud engineer-trainee companyman..hehehe

  12. JabbatheHutt says:

    I am officially hijacking wata’s blog for the next few days as he’ll be quite busy. I get to abuse people freely.

  13. Tali Kapal says:

    Great….Great…Great….

  14. JabbatheHutt says:

    how come no stupid graduates asking for wata’s email that i can abuse. i am bored!

  15. Tali Kapal says:

    they already get scared of you man..next time no need to make an official announcement..hehehe..

  16. JabbatheHutt says:

    going back to old uncle Tom’s recruitment drive, they have even VP position.

    wonder they have any position for He Man, master of the universe. Graduates can also apply. to qualify, do the following;

    1. buy a metal pipe
    2. stand in the center of the football field during a thunder storm and hold up the metal pipe
    3. scream “I HAVE THE POWER” when the thunder strikes you

    You’ll get the job and wata’s email if you survive

  17. Tali Kapal says:

    just for laugh…

    “This roughneck went to the hardware store. The attendant asked what he needed and he told him he needed a wrench. When asked what type of wrench, the roughneck replied “It don’t make no difference I’m going to ues it for a hammer anyway.”
