Saturday Star 2009-08-01 – Job Opportunities

A first – topless lady on page M15 of this week’s The Star. Score one for non-imaginative (or sly) photographers!

  • First off, Synergy is looking for 5 lead safety engineers and 3 lead process engineers. Visit the Synergy website for contact details. And safety specialists. Ah, heck. If you have more than 5 years experience in O&G, apply. If you have less than 5, send a donation to the offshore account, and still get abuse.
  • Synergy Vietnam is apparently looking for process engineers. Visit their website.
  • ExxonMobil is looking for Project, Construction/Installation, Cost & Schedule Engineer. I think the new Tapis platform is moving to the detailed design stage, eh? Anyone know who won the job? Apply  here.
  • Talisman is looking for a Rotating Equipment Eng. Apply here, and visit their site.

Here’s a new food place, run by a friend of mine. One6 kopitiamhas a mini-library inside the shop, my kind of place. Now, if it had the latest editions of O’reilly books… Think I’ll be stopping over there every time I get in on a late flight from KLIA, as it’s on the way home.

Some reflexology thoughts:

  • If there are good pressure points on the soles of your feet, how do you know your masseuse isn’t hitting the bad points?
  • If your body aches, you apply reflexology. If your foot aches, do you massage your body?

    One6 kopitiam….

the fish and chips look a bit dry.

the half boiled eggs look tempting

  2. Alan says:

Wata,do you by any chance know the designation of Exxon’s HR manager?

  3. ChemEngGrads says:

    Hye,Mr. Wata,
I have just graduated from UTP in chemical enginering (process) with a first class honours. I really need ur email, to ask you few advices for me to enter this new working-life experience.

Many thanks & really looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    • Wata says:

ChemEngGrads: ask here. And if you have a first class degree, why aren’t you already working with PETRONAS?

  4. ChemEngGrads says:

well sir, not every student in UTP is a PETRONAS scholar.

  5. JabbatheHutt says:

or if they drop the standard enough, everyone is a first class student

  6. ChemEngGrads says:

hehe. is it possible JabbatheHutt? but it seems pretty hard to find a job nowadays, eventhough u have good grades.

    • Jabbathehutt says:

wata actually woke up from a coma by interviewing first class student due to their answers….

i think it is possible…. Malaysia boleh!

      Anyway, good luck.

  7. Fadzli says:

    Hentam ajelah apa2 keje dulu..get some experience,when you qualified,apply what you wish..for me , I wish “Toyota Wish”…

  8. Fadzli says:

PERWAJA is looking process engineer for direct reduction gas plant…try if you want and good luck.

  9. ChemEngGrads says:

    i will. thanks fadzli.

  10. PC01 says:

Salam mr.wata.Any vacancy for static equipment mech. engineer with 5 years exp?

    • Wata says:

PC01: Wa’alaikum salam. If I take engineers, they will be of the process vintage. Maybe someone else is looking for stat. mech. eng.

      • Jabbathehutt says:

        what background? oil and gas?

static eng? what that means, you do RFQ, package typed work or what?

  11. PC01 says:

My qualification is chemical eng but basicly this position is for mechanical eng. grads. My background is 3 years oil n gas n 2 years oleochemical industries specializing in static equipment(mechanical) eg. pressure vessel, heat exchangers, tanks and etc.
I prepare mechanical datasheet & GA drawing, review drawing n calculations by vendor, liase with client on any technical issue, review plant model and etc.

  12. Jabbathehutt says:

can you size pressure vessel (i.e. wall thickness, etc until fabrication drawing), heat exchanger mechanical design and tank design include plating, roof, bottom etc)?

If you do datasheet, you can do materials selection etc?

Anyway, don’t use the word review. anyone less than 8 years experience doing the work doesn’t deserve to review. Only lead engineer can review. Engineers less than 8 yrs only look at the model, try to work out what’s happening, and say yes. I use to “play” around with young engineers “reviewing” my work. The word review when used by a young engineers makes experienced engineers go mad.

    • PC01 says:

Sorry for the using the word review that might make somebody angry with my only 5 years exp.I don’t size the vessel only do wall thickness calculation, strength calculation until completion of fabrication drawing.Material selection normally is given by process people due to the process condition but mechanical will also advice base on the design temperature n pressure which should be more cost effective and suitable.

  13. mf.Abdullah says:

mr wata, how can i donate money to your account?

    • Wata says:

mf.Abdullah: click on the paypal link, and follow instructions. You need to open a Paypal account. Any other method I know requires me to give out my Swiss bank account detals.

      • Jabbathehutt says:

i can also provide you with Jabba’s paypal account, because wata’s paypal cannot accept any money more than USD10.

    • Wata says:

mf.Abdullah: I have just corrected the Paypal link.

  14. hans says:

    Review drawing and calculations …hah???
Should I call Prof PC01.. or Ir. PC01.

    Sorry can’t help it …

  15. Jabbathehutt says:

again, you get guys like hans.

But Jabba is taken over by a unknown spirit, so I am in a good mood.

anyway, your best bet should be someone like GPS, KPS etc if you want to do a lot of skid packages.

  16. hans says:

Hu Hu Jabbathehutt notice me. TPCP – only Staff Engineer and Above (Principal) reviews people drawings and calculations. Less than 8 years only awareness – like Jabba explanation. What non-sense am I writing here? Huh Eh…

  17. member says:

I thought that TPCP is “tak pandai cakap pandai…”

  18. Jabbathehutt says:

Hans, I agree with you. (and that’s a rare one).

anyway, jabba cracks the whip heavily. Jabba is limited to reviewing process, piping, static package and some instrument deliverables and pipeline deliverables.
