Here’s a link to the Driller’s article, ‘In the oil patch, a rising death rate’?
I wonder what the death rate is around here in Malaysia? Deaths that I do know about are:
- Chopper accident of the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia, the pilot was killed.
- Explosive decompression of a fuel gas filter separator in the South China Sea, an operator was killed.
- Second hand information: a drilling rig operator was killed in the midst of operations.
These events can still happen even with the best of intentions, and with our mindset of ‘safety first, above all’. Maybe you should hang around with old timers, and they can tell you of stories offshore. We don’t have the events at the scale of Piper Alpha, but the danger is always there.
