I see that alot of opportunities in the O&G industry require years of experience. How would a person in say M&E consultant and construction have the chance to get into this industry. Would his experience be negligible entering this industry?

Btw come visit http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/255573/ . Some advise there to young graduates would help boost visits to your blog.

I did notice you said somewhere that engineers are hard to come by while the reality is graduate engineers are finding it hard to secure jobs. Are employers becoming too picky?

Oturanabna: My impression is that if you demand a large renumeration, your employee would demand that you have experience in the industry and are able to hit the ground running. Experience outside the O&G industry generally doesn’t count a lot. However, having said that, look for fields where there is overlap, for example HVAC, electric power supply, structural steel construction, and see if your current experience can gain you credit.

Lastely, I think lean, mean O&G production companies, the new breed that has come to Malaysia, want to see results as soon as possible, hence the demand for experienced talent. The larger companies will have room for greenhorns. Keep an eye out in the Saturday papers.

Zzeed: if you can present your work history in a way that meets the criteria above… don’t tell them I taught you.
