Engineers keeping up with the news would know that in addition to the Professional Assessment Examination (PAE), from January 1st, 2008 engineers would be required to pass a Competency Exam before being registered as a professional engineer in Malaysia.
Lo and behold, the date has slipped. Engineers who apply to take the CAE after April 1, 2008 would have to pass the CE.
The CE is intended to test the engineer’s knowledge with respect to laws applicable to their engineering speciality.

encek wata,
i would like to apply for the professional engineer, but they ask me to sit for an assesment exam.. could you advise me on how to prepare for the exam?
nice blog.. thanx
en_me: the assessment exam is a new thing. All I know is what should have been described in the letter they sent you. In summary, the exam is to assess your knowledge in Malaysian Acts and Regulations relevant to your discipline. So, to prepare purchase or get access to copies of the Acts, and hit the books 🙂 !
How about those Graduate engineers who apply PI and not PAE? Do I need to sit for competency examination if I apply for PI?
Many Thanks
How about graduate engineer apply for PI? DO they need to sit for competency examination if they apply PI instead PAE?
Many thanks
Henry: you have to ask the BEM about whether the competency exam has been implemented or not.
PI?
You mean you want to be:
PI – Private Investigator (like the show Magnum PI)
PI – Which stands for an obsenity I use on some of my very close indian friends.
Which one?
PI = Professional Interview (IEM)
oh, ok
En Wata,
For PE from Chemical background, do we need to sit for this competency exam to obtain the license from BEM?
CS: the competency exam has not been implemented yet. It’s awaiting the amendment of the Registration of Engineers Act.
