Malaysian player secures work on solar-powered platform destined for Shell’s gas project

Perunding Ranhill Worley (PRW), a subsidiary of Ranhill, has been awarded a deal for detailed design engineering (DDE) services of a platform, which will be powered by renewable energy and deployed at a Shell-operated gas project offshore Malaysia.

Ranhill disclosed last week that Perunding Ranhill Worley was awarded a contract for detailed design engineering (DDE) services, including follow on engineering (FOE) of a fixed solar-powered offshore platform, for the Sarawak Shell Berhad-operated Rosmari-Marjoram gas project. Situated 220 kilometres off the coast of Bintulu, Sarawak, this project will be powered by renewable energy.


Shell, Petronas to develop Rosmari-Marjoram gas fields off Malaysia

Shell Plc (SHEL.L) on Monday said it would invest with Malaysian state oil firm Petronas to develop the Rosmari-Marjoram gas fields in the Southeast Asian country’s waters.

The Rosmari-Marjoram fields are situated 220 km (136.7 miles) off the coast of Bintulu in the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

The project is designed to produce 800 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, with gas production expected to start in 2026, Shell said in a statement.

Rosmari-Marjoram is a proposed sour gas field development located in Block SK318, offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB), a Malaysian subsidiary of Shell, has 75% ownership and is the operator of the gasfield. Petronas subsidiary Petronas Carigali holds a 15% stake in the field while Brunei Energy Exploration owns the remaining 10% stake. The estimated investment in the project is $1bn.
