Dateline 2014-09-05, Asia One Business:

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has commenced oil production from the Banang field – part of the Kapal, Banang and Meranti (KBM) cluster of marginal fields awarded to a consortium of Coastal Energy Co and Petra Energy Bhd – on July 15, three months ahead of schedule.

The national oil company said in a statement yesterday that Banang was the second field under the KBM risk service contract (RSC) to have achieved first oil after the Kapal field came onstream in December last year.

This makes the KBM cluster, located offshore Peninsular Malaysia, the third RSC to successfully reach oil production after the Balai cluster and Berantai field, Petronas said

Will Malaysia Emerge as the New Qatar of LNG?

November 16, 2014

Dateline 2014-08-26, The Marine Executive:

Wood Mackenzie asserts that by 2020, Malaysia has the potential to be the largest supplier of flexible LNG to the global market, larger even than Qatar. The supply capacity of Malaysia’s Petronas is growing through new capacity additions in eastern Malaysia as well as Canada, offtake agreements with other suppliers and projects such as GLNG in Australia. Its supply potential could grow by over 55 percent, from 27 million tons per annum (mmtpa) in 2013 to 42 mmtpa in 2022. Some of this new capacity is committed to buyers, but some is not. In addition, some of its existing commitments to buyers will expire over the next 10 years.

UPKO tells PETRONAS to stay out

November 1, 2014

Yeah, PETRONAS. I’d set up some more security around Menara PETRONAS, in case there are ‘untold incidents’. Or move Menara further into the suburbs.

Dateline 2014-08-14, Free Malaysia Today:

The United Pasok Momogun KadazanDusunMurut Organisation (Upko), which recently urged the federal government to hand over its five per cent oil royalty to the Sabah government has come up with new demands.

The party now wants Petronas, the national corporation, to confine itself to the peninsula if it can’t meet a 20 per cent oil royalty demand by Sabah.

It also wants the National Petroleum Advisory Council, provided under Clause (5) of the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA), to be set up as soon as possible.

Let Sabah have all 10% oil royalty – UPKO

October 23, 2014

Dateline 2014-08-10, Borneo Post Online:

United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) yesterday urged the Federal Government, which is receiving a five per cent share of the oil royalty from Petronas, to instead give it to the oil producing states.

“We in Upko have been saying all along, there is an urgent need for Sabah, being an oil producing state, to be given more than the five per cent share it is getting at the moment. I wish to reiterate our party congress resolutions for several years now, that the most practical solution is for Putrajaya to give its share to Sabah. This is doable,” said Upko acting president Datuk Madius Tangau.

September 28, 2014

We’ve had doctors leading the rakyat, why not the fifth estate?

Dateline 2014-07-14, MSN News:

A veteran newsman has cautioned Putrajaya against interfering with Petronas following the oil major’s success in moving up the ranks of the Fortune 500 list.

Datuk A. Kadir Jasin (pic), the former New Straits Times group editor-in-chief, said he hoped that Petronas, which ranked 69 on the list, would continue to be successful without any interference from the government.

“Our hope is that Petronas will continue to be successful without damaging interference from the government while dividends paid out to Putrajaya (RM27 billion last year) would be put to good use without wastage and leakages,” he wrote in his blog today.
