10 hydrocarbon discoveries made in Malaysia

Petronas and its Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (operators) in Malaysia this year have notched up a combined 10 discoveries on the back of buoyant exploration drilling, with the star of the show being Petronas Carigali’s significant Nahara find.

“The year 2022 has been a good year for exploration in Malaysia. I am very pleased with the increased exploration activities where 16 wells were completed, with two more in progress, doubling 2021’s figure,” said Petronas senior vice president of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Mohamed Firouz Asnan.


PTT Exploration and Production : PTTEP makes another gas discovery at SK410B offshore Malaysia

PTTEP announces another gas discovery in Malaysia from the exploration well, Paprika-1, in Block SK410B. The discovery provides PTTEP with a further development opportunity in Northern Sarawak and supports the company’s long-term growth.
Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), disclosed that PTTEP’s subsidiary PTTEP HK Offshore Limited (PTTEP HKO) commenced the drilling of Paprika -1 wildcat well in Block SK410B in July 2022. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,348 meters and encountered gas pay in clastic reservoirs. PTTEP and partners – KUFPEC and PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, previously made a major gas discovery at Lang Lebah structure within the same block.


Petronas Carigali green lights Malaysia’s giant offshore CCS project

Malaysia’s national upstream company Petronas Carigali has taken the final investment decision on its Kasawari carbon capture and storage (CCS) — Kasawari phase two — development offshore Sarawak, East Malaysia.

The CCS project, located in Block SK 316 about 200 kilometres offshore Bintulu, is expected to reduce carbon dioxide volumes emitted via flaring by 3.3 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually, making it one of the largest offshore CCS projects in the world.

Petronas Carigali’s chief executive Hasliza Othman said: “The FID marks a crucial stage in the progress of CCS solutions.

“This project is expected to become the catalyst in achieving end-to-end CCS capability development within Petronas and the first step in unlocking Malaysia’s potential as a regional CCS solutions hub.”


Shell, Petronas expand Baram Delta terms to include gas rights

Petronas, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell Malaysia have expanded the terms of the 2011 Baram Delta (BDO) production sharing contract (PSC) for enhanced oil recovery projects (EOR) offshore Sarawak (2011 Baram Delta EOR PSC) to include gas rights.

With the signing of the Heads of Agreement (HOA) for Baram Delta Gas Gathering Project 2 (BARDEGG2), associated and non-associated gas rights linked with the Baram Delta Operations will be incorporated into the 2011 Baram Delta EOR PSC, said Shell Malaysia in a statement on Thursday.

The Tukau Timur field, previously part of the SK307 PSC, will also be integrated into the 2011 Baram Delta EOR PSC enabling non-associated gas to be developed as part of a single integrated development project.

I’ll do the weekly job roundup tomorrow, had a leaking water pipe, so that took (and still is a) priority.

Last we heard about the incident, 6 people were injured, but this was way back in Dec. Anyone have any updates? Rumor has it that there is no gas flowing from the platform, due to the extent of damage.
