PETRONAS to develop four marginal fields

PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has launched a new licensing round for four marginal field clusters, with the bidding process open from October 2019 to May 2020, according to the national oil firm’s Activity Outlook 2020-2022.

Described as discovered resources opportunities (DRO) clusters, they are the Diwangsa and Rhu-Ara shallow water clusters located off the shores of Peninsular Malaysia, and the Kerisi and Bambazon clusters located offshore Sabah.

The Diwangsa cluster comprises four fields about 275km off the shores of Kemaman, Terengganu, while the Rhu-Ara cluster comprises two fields 150km from the shores of Pahang.

The Kerisi cluster, 115km from the shores of Sabah, contains four fields with water depths averaging 1,200m to 1,500m. The Bambazon cluster comprises two shallow water fields around 20km offshore northwest Sabah.

It has been six years since the national oil firm shelved the development of marginal oilfields in the country.


Lundin Petroleum hits oil offshore Malaysia

Lundin Petroleum said it has hit oil after completing work on the Bambazon exploration well offshore East Malaysia.

The company said the well encountered 15 metres of reservoir pay with oil shows over three main reservoir intervals.

The well in Block SB307/SB308 has since been plugged and abandoned.

It was drilled with the West Prospero jack-up rig to a total depth of 1,380 metres.

Lundin Malaysia holds an 85% working interest in SB 307/308.

 


Lundin Spuds Bambazon Prospect in Block SB307/308 Offshore East Malaysia

Sweden’s Lundin Petroleum AB announced Friday that its wholly owned subsidiary Lundin Malaysia BV has commenced drilling of the Bambazon exploration well in Block SB307/SB308, offshore East Malaysia.

The Bambazon prospect, located in shallow water and lies to the north of a major producing field in offshore East Malaysia, will target hydrocarbons in Miocene aged sands and is being drilled by the jackup West Prospero (400′ ILC) to a total depth of approximately 4,101 feet (1,250 meters) below mean sea level.

Drilling of the well is expected to take approximately 25 days.
