IEM Shout Out – 2019-07 Technical Visit to Technical Visit to LNG Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP)

My technical division will be hosting a visit on the 22nd July, 2019.

The Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP) is under the purview of Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB), a public-listed company on Bursa Malaysia. PGB operates and maintains the offshore Regasification Terminal in Sungai Udang, Melaka (RGTSU) and the onshore Regasification Terminal in Pengerang, Johor (RGTP).

RGTP provides primary gas supply to RAPID, Pengerang Co-Generation Plant (PCP) and the Peninsular Gas Utilization (PGU) pipeline grid to augment the availability of gas in the country. RGTP offers Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) unloading and reloading, storage, handling and regasification.

The plant has a capacity of 3.5 mtpa (million-tonnes per annum) and began its commercial operation in 2017. The plant receives LNG vessels carrying LNG imported from around the world, store it in storage tanks and convert the LNG into gas, before injecting it into the PGU pipeline grid for distribution to customers.

Asian countries cooperate to assess potential of shale oil and gas resources

An international workshop on the assessment of shale energy in Asia, under the second phase of the unconventional oil and gas resources project, took place in Hanoi on April 23.

The event was jointly held by the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East & Southeast Asia (CCOP), the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), and the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI).

Dr. Byeong-Kook Son, head of KIGAM’s oil and gas research group, introduced the results of the assessment in 13 sedimentary basins and 21 shale formations in Asia.

Malaysia could be removing its price cap for RON95 petrol soon

A price cap on RON95 petrol in Malaysia could soon be removed, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has reportedly said.

The decision on the price cap will be made when a new petrol subsidy comes into effect, The Star reported on Tuesday (April 23),

This new subsidy is expected to be limited to recipients of the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) 2019, which is a cash aid given to around 4.1 million households in the Bottom 40 (B40) household income group.

Exco: RM180m Perak gas pipeline ready by end of year

The 140km gas pipeline project from Ayer Tawar to Lembah Kinta in Perak will be completed by the end of this year, the state assembly heard today.

State Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said development and installation of the gas pipeline project were beyond the two-thirds mark.

“The project has seven packages, which involves three districts namely Manjung, Perak Tengah and Kinta.

“And as of February 28, about 67.7 per cent has been completed,” he said.

The Sungai Rapat assemblyman said that the RM180 million gas pipeline project would benefit 44 manufacturing companies.

Malaysia’s economy to pick in 2H on higher oil prices

Malaysia’s economic growth is expected to bounce back in the second half of the year after most likely hitting its lowest level in nearly three years during thr first quarter, economists said.

They said the economy may have posted the slowest quarterly expansion since the second quarter of 2016 but with the recovery in oil price, a significant pick up is expected from July till December this year.

The oil price had gained around 30 per cent in the first quarter of this year, with Brent posting its best quarterly performance in a decade since the second quarter of 2009.

Economists too have upgraded their forecast to a median of US$68.25 a barrel from US$67 in just about less than a month, according to Bloomberg’s survey.

Malaysian state-owned oil and gas firm Petronas said on Monday it had acquired a Singapore-based solar energy company as part of a strategy to move into renewable energy, chasing high-growth business to complement its mainstay operations.

The solar company, Amplus Energy Solutions Pte Ltd or M+, specialises in rooftop and ground-based solar power projects with a cumulative capacity of over 500 megawatt (MW) under operation and development. It has projects across India, the Middle East and South East Asia, according to a statement from Petronas.

Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg today asked Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) to share its seismic data on oil and gas reserves in the state’s territorial boundary with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).

“They have the seismic data. We want to know the data. Let’s share the data with Petros,” he said when addressing the Sarawak Oil and Gas Seminar and Exhibition here.
