Petronas explores renewable energy market

August 25, 2019

When will PETRONAS divest its hydrocarbon assets?

Dateline 2019-07-10, FMT:

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has taken steps to explore new growth areas beyond the conventional oil and gas sectors, says president and group CEO Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

Wan Zulkiflee said against the backdrop of demand for more sustainable energy sources, Petronas is considering viable investments in renewable energy, namely in solar, wind and biomass projects on a commercial scale.

“To cater to the growing energy demand, the company has embarked on numerous energy investments anchored to its three-pronged strategy to develop an energy mix that effectively balances the energy trilemma of security, affordability and sustainability of energy supply,” he said at the World Economic Forum’s roundtable discussion on Malaysia’s energy landscape today.

On track to meet renewable energy target

This is a leter to the paper::

Dateline 2019-06-28, The Star:

REFERRING to the report “Jomo: Lack of political commitment for RE (renewable energy) agenda in Malaysia” (TheStarOnline, June 25; https://bit.ly/2YoHHYx), there is actually no issue of political will by the Pakatan Harapan government in setting the right tone via policies to promote the uptake of renewable energy.

The government is committed to fulfilling its promise in the Pakatan manifesto to increase the installed capacity of renewable energy (excluding large hydro schemes) from 2% in 2018 to 20% by the year 2025. It must be noted that this target is significantly higher than the one set by the previous administration (13% by 2030)

MGA advocates natural gas as a perfect partner to renewables

April 27, 2019

Dateline 2019-03-15, Bornoe Post:

With the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change’s (MESTECC) recent focus on expanding the contribution of renewables sources to the power sector, the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) strongly advocates the increasingly important role that natural gas plays globally in transitioning to a sustainable energy mix and how Malaysia can emulate this to ensure the nation’s energy sustainability.

With MESTECC’s 2019 Initiatives striving to achieve 20 per cent renewable energy capacity mix and eight per cent savings through energy efficiency by 2025, the inherent properties of natural gas as the cleanest burning fossil fuel, makes it the perfect partner to achieve these targets.

‘Petronas exploring new energy avenues’

November 13, 2017

Does this affect the spirit of amanah PETRONAS is given in the Petroleum Development Act 1974?

Dateline 2017-09-26, NST:

PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is considering venturing into renewable energy (RE) to stay relevant in the global energy industry, said president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

Petronas could venture into solar, wind or other new energy sources, Wan Zulkiflee said, adding that the matter was in the evaluation stage.

“We are evaluating on what type of new energies are suitable for us and where we can make money. It is not a matter of just being involved in RE, or for the sake of following others who are already involved.

Petrosains’ ‘little plans for the big planet’

Support the movement to get PETRONAS into renewal energy sources, and inventing a perpetual motion machine at the same time.

Dateline 2017-09-17, NST:

THE sustainable lifestyle movement stems from the actions of the public and requires continuous advocacy by the scientific and education communities.

In championing and encouraging a sustainable lifestyle in Malaysia, the Petrosains Science Festival Kuala Lumpur is back for the fourth year since its inception in 2013 with the theme “Sustainable Living” and tagline “Little Plans for the Big Planet”.

Petrosains Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim said science, like music, was a part of culture and had vast applications in life, especially in protecting the Earth, which would be inherited by the younger generations.
