SHAH ALAM (Jan 23): Phase four of the temporary rental assistance, which is from January to March 2026, will be extended to 67 household heads (KIR) affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire in Subang Jaya.

State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the extension was approved at the Selangor State Executive Council Meeting No. 3/2026 on Jan 21, following the latest assessments and site visits conducted by the Petaling District and Land Office.

MUKAH, Jan 23 — The presence of highly flammable methane gas has been confirmed at the Kaul Festival site in Oya near here, following an extensive monitoring operation by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Zone 4 Bomba Sibu Chief Andy Alie said the situation is considered high risk after readings from specialised gas detection equipment recorded Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) levels of between 90 and 100 per cent, indicating a potentially dangerous concentration of flammable gas.


PETRONAS–Sarawak Dispute Tightens Around Bintulu LNG

Petronas has escalated its long-running dispute with the Sarawak state government, seeking judicial relief against 120 million ringgit ($29.9 million) in penalties imposed on five of its subsidiaries — a move that places the Bintulu LNG complex firmly at the heart of a widening contest over gas governance in Malaysia’s most important producing state.

The companies — including the national oil company’s upstream division, Petronas Carigali, as well as Malaysia LNG, Malaysia LNG Dua, Malaysia LNG Tiga and Petronas LNG 9 — jointly applied to the High Court in Kuching, Sarawak, for permission to pursue a judicial review of the fines.


EcoCeres Malaysia sells first bionaphtha to LG Chem

Hong Kong-based biofuels producer EcoCeres has exported the first bionaphtha produced at its 420,000 t/yr biofuels facility in Johor, Malaysia, to South Korean chemical company LG Chem, it said today.

This follows the export of EcoCeres’ first sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) cargoes from the plant in mid-December.

The bionaphtha cargo was 2,000t of International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus-certified product, delivering to South Korea in January. In 2025, LG Chem agreed to buy a total of 4,000t of bionaphtha from EcoCeres in 2026 at a fixed price, with the second cargo expected to be delivered during the second half of 2026, a market source said.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 20): PJBumi Bhd has entered into a contract to purchase five drilling rigs as the group prepares for its upcoming oil and gas integrated project management (IPM) drilling work in Indonesia.

The two sets of 750-horsepower (HP) AC drilling rigs and three sets of 550HP AC drilling rigs, supplied by China-based Gaoyou Hao Xiang Petroleum Machinery Co Ltd, carry a total consideration of US$39.87 million (RM161.58 million), according to the group’s bourse filing on Tuesday.
