National Gas completes acquisition in Malaysia

National Gas Company (NGC) has completed acquisition of Shell’s LPG assets in West Malaysia through an indirect subsidiary of the company.
NGC Energy has received all necessary licenses and regulatory approvals to operate the business from the relevant authorities in Malaysia and has commenced commercial operations under its own name with effect from November 8,2012.

Malaysia, Singapore to cooperate in oil spill control
November 24, 2012Dateline 2012-11-10:
Malaysia and Singapore today agreed to further enhance collaboration in the prevention and control of oil spill in the Straits of Johor, and continue to organise a joint emergency response exercise to counter chemical spill at the second crossing.
These are among of the cooperation discussed and agreed upon between Malaysian Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Unggah Embas and his counterpart Singapore Environment and Water Resources Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan at the two-day 25th Malaysia-Singapore Annual Exchange of Visits held here today, said a joint statement by both ministers.
It said Malaysia agreed to organise the 9th Joint Emergency Response Exercise under the Emergency Response Plan for Chemical Spill at the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing, tentatively in the third quarter of next year.
It will provide a good opportunity for both countries to test and improve further their existing response plan, said the statement.

Petronas was set up in 1974 and its first CEO Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah recently revealed that there were plans for the establishment of a Tabung Warisan Petrolium (National Petroleum Heritage Fund) for the future of Malaysians when our oil wells run dry.
Has there been any such oil fund set up? As far as I know there has never been a disclosure by the government of the existence of such a fund.
With the billions or even trillions of ringgit in oil revenue over some four decades, there is absolutely no excuse that is acceptable to Malaysians for this tragic betrayal of the people’s trust by our “oil sheikhs … Mahathir, Abdullah and Najib”.

Kelantan would settle oil royalty suit out of court, says Husam

Kelantan is willing to settle its long-drawn oil royalty dispute out of court if Putrajaya expedites approval of the PAS state’s demand for RM800 million in annual royalties owed since 2005, state executive councillor Datuk Husam Musa has said.
Husam, who heads Kelantan’s Oil Royalty Action Committee, was weighing in on the government’s announcement on Tuesday promising a RM100 million payment to Pahang for untapped oil fields off the state coast.
“There is no more reason to refuse payment to Kelantan. I hope we can settle this out of court,” he told The Malaysian Insider earlier this week.

Delay in operations of Petronas’ regasification terminal in Malacca
November 20, 2012Inside gossip says that the original schedule was unrealistic anyway, so I guess the ‘delay’ is of interest to those who aren’t into reading inside-baseball analysis.
Dateline 2012-10-30:
The commercialisation of Petronas Gas Bhd‘s liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal (RGT) in Sungai Udang, Malacca may be postponed to early next year due to the delay in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) .
“We gather from various industry sources including the contractors that the RGT could be operational by end-Jan 2013 instead of end-2012.
“This is a one-month delay versus Petronas Gas’s guidance of end-2012 and a five-month delay from the initial start date of Aug 2012.
“We believe that the delays are not due to Malaysia’s regulatory reforms but the result of EPC challenges,” CIMB Research said.

Petronas Chemicals to End Vinyl Business; Will Record MYR560 Million Charge in 4Q
November 18, 2012So, PETRONAS is out of the 45 rpm business? Are they selling off their plant in Kerteh?
Dateline 2012-10-29:
Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (5183.KU), the petrochemical arm of Malaysian state oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd, said late Monday it will discontinue its vinyl business and cease operations by January 1, 2013.
As a result, the company will take a charge of 560 million ringgit ($183 million) in the fourth quarter this year to mainly provide for decommissioning, contract termination dues and impairment expense, Petronas Chemicals said in a statement to the Malaysian stock exchange.
“The performance of the vinyl business has not been satisfactory compared to the group’s other businesses,” Petronas Chemicals said, because it wasn’t “closely integrated” within its product value chain.
