Bar Petronas execs from entering Sarawak to end royalty impasse, state DAP tells Adenan

May 31, 2015

Ah, click bait. And is he asking to ban GST execs as well?

Dateline 2015-04-27, TMI:

Sarawak DAP chief today suggested that Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to use the state’s immigration powers to bar Petronas executives and managers from entering the state to break the deadlock on demand for an increase in oil and gas royalty.

Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman, also urged Adenan to cancel work permits of those employed in the offices of Petronas, Malaysia Liquefied Natural Gas (MLNG) and their subsidiary companies in the state.

In urging the state to resort to strong arm tactics against the national oil and gas company, Chong said that the state “needs to use more drastic and harsher means” to push its demands for the increase in royalty.

“We have been consistently diversifying the economy to reduce dependence on the oil and gas sector,” Wahid said at the Invest Malaysia 2015 event in Kuala Lumpur today.

Petronas: New vessels cuts cost

May 29, 2015

Save costs, at the expense of cutting out local companies, we see, hmmm? Or were some technical services people due for company sponsored holidays in Korea?

Also, the electical system of the PFLNG cost USD50M alone. The whole PFLNG is at least USD2billion. Compare that to the cost savings in the article.

Dateline 2015-04-23, Daily Express:

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which is building two floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facilities, said the new vessels would lower the production cost of smaller gas fields.

“With the Petronas FLNG 1 (PFLNG 1), we are looking at US$500mil (RM1.85bil) cost saving for a marginal gas producing field,” said Petronas vice-president and venture director LNG project (domestic) Datuk Abdullah Karim.

The first such vessel in the world, which is expected to enter production early next year, is designed to operate near an offshore gas field where it will produce, liquefy, store and transfer LNG at sea to bigger ships for exports.

A conventional way to produce LNG requires gas to be pumped through underwater pipelines to an onshore facility and processed.

“We will save on the cost of building a pipeline. For instance, 180km would cost US$400mil to US$500mil, as well as a jetty and a berth onshore that would cost US$100mil to US$150mil more,” he said.

Abdullah said the PFLNG 1 would open new opportunities to better access small and remote offshore gas field in the country.

“We expect the first cargo of LNG to be available in the first quarter of 2016,” Abdullah said, adding that the gas supplies will likely be used for domestic consumption.

Happy Visit Singapore week. Buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (all 4 books). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me.

  • I’m looking for jobs for 2H2015. Send me y0ur POs.
  • An associate of mine is looking for a well completion engineer, 10 years in the position (no, not position 23b, second variant). Send your CV to me. As per my Facebook posting, idiotic applications, straight to /dev/null.
  • An associate of mine is looking for a technical safety part-time adviser. Needs to be needle sharp with respect to QRAs, and HSE safety cases. A calm demeanor to handle nonsensical questions from young engineers helps as well. Either that, or a drinking problem.
  • An associate of mine is looking for an offshore structural engineer, senior engineer, 5+ years experience, permanent post. Relevant applications + bribery fee can be sent to me, not relevant applications get posted to facepalm.com.
  • An associate of mine is looking for a Senior process engineer, more than 5 yr experience in oil and gas industry, for assignment at PPMSB for approximately 7 months. Tentative duration is to start mid May, ends on 31 Dec. Again, I am running a bribery bid.
  • Nothing much in the news.

Support your local bookshop!  Bookalicious at The Summit Subang is a good choice. I think they focus on trilogies, quadrilogies, and other ologies. Tell them I sent you, and enjoy the look of perplexity on their faces. Those of you who have dropped my name, thanks!

Russia Ready to Tender for Malaysia’s First Nuclear Power Plant

May 23, 2015

доброе утро

Link to O&G? Replacement industry.

Dateline 2015-04-13, Sputnik International:

Russia is ready to enter a bid for construction of the first nuclear power plant in Malaysia, if it is announced, Russia’s nuclear corporation Rosatom Deputy Director Kirill Komarov said Monday.

Komarov said that Russia is ready to participate in the tender despite the fact that Moscow and Kuala Lumpur do not yet have a nuclear energy agreement.

Moscow can offer cooperation in building nuclear reactors to countries which have plans of nuclear energy development, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, Komarov said. Russian reactors meet all recent upgraded nuclear safety requirements introduced following the 2011 catastrophe at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

PT Synergy Engineering Bags FEED Contract for East Java’s Lengo Gas Field

May 22, 2015

Hah, first time I see PT Synergy in the public press. Congratulations, Pak Arif and Pak Wong. Yes, nothing to do with Malaysia, overtly.

Dateline 2015-04-13, Rigzone:

Singapore-listed KrisEnergy Ltd. (KrisEnergy or the Company), an independent upstream oil and gas company, announced Monday it has awarded the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the Lengo gas development offshore East Java in Indonesia, and has commenced geophysical and geotechnical surveys at the platform site as well as along the proposed platform-to-shore pipeline route and onshore receiving terminal location.

The Lengo gas accumulation is located in the Bulu production sharing contract (PSC), which covers 269 square miles (697 square kilometers) over the East Java Basin in water depths of 164 to 197 feet (50 to 60 meters). The development plan was approved by the Indonesian authorities in late 2014 and comprises four development wells, an unmanned wellhead platform and a 20-inch, 40-mile (65-kilometer) export pipeline to transport the gas to shore. The Company is in negotiations over gas sales and production is expected to begin approximately 24 months after the joint-venture partners declare final investment decision. The field will produce 70 million cubic feet per day at plateau.

Indonesian-based survey contractor, Java Offshore, has commenced the geophysical and geotechnical surveys and PT. Synergy Engineering was awarded the engineering services contract for the Lengo FEED.
