From Free Malaysia Today – ‘Sabah must get more from new oil finds’

August 21, 2011

Don’t think I’m working on any Sabah fields…

Dateline 2011-08-08:

Jeffrey Kitingan today claimed that state Barisan Nasional leaders stopped making a fuss about the meagre oil royalties from Petronas once their ‘associates’ had been awarded lucrative contracts by the national oil company.

Disclosing this, Borneo Heritage Foundation (BHF) leader Jeffrey said: “Sabah BN leaders should also stop paying lip service and for once seriously consider the interests of the state and the plight of the poor citizens.

“The time is up for these leaders and for patriotic leaders to rise and demand for the rights of Sabah and its people to be the paramount criteria, especially for the sake of the future generations of Sabahans.”

Stressing his views in a statement issued today, Jeffrey said the Umno-led BN state government and its leaders needed to re-examine and re-think their strategies on the oil and gas resources located in Sabah and its territorial waters, especially in view of new oil finds in the state.

From the Maritime Executive – Lundin Petroleum Discovers Gas in Second Malaysia Well

August 20, 2011

Please, submit those CVs to Lundin NOW. Maybe I should as well… Anyone I know there?

Dateline 2011-08-05:

Lundin Petroleum AB (Lundin Petroleum) [CA:LUP -4.03%] (omx:LUPE) is pleased to announce that it has made a second gas discovery with the Cempulut-1 well that was drilled in Block SB303, offshore Sabah, East Malaysia.

Cempulut-1 was drilled with the Offshore Courageous rig in a water depth of approximately 75 meters. The well was drilled to a total depth of 1,095 meters.

The Cempulut-1 well intersected a large Late Miocene carbonate reef with excellent reservoir properties.

The gross total vertical pay thickness encountered is approximately 50 metres. The deeper targeted oil leg however proved to be water bearing.

An extensive data acquisition program was completed including pressure measurements, sampling and a mini flow test.

The data recovered from the well will be analysed further in order to determine a range of resource estimates.

From Platts – Indonesia says close to deal with Petronas on Natuna gas price hike

August 18, 2011

Dateline 2011-08-03:

Malaysia’s state-owned oil company Petronas was willing to increase the price of gas it buys from Natuna block B by more than 100% to $6/MMBtu, Indonesian upstream regulator BPMigas’ communication head, Gde Pradnyana, said Wednesday.

But the deal still needs to be approved by Indonesia’s energy and mines minister, Darwin Zahedy Saleh, he added.

“We have reached a deal with Petronas to increase the gas price. Petronas is willing to pay more than $6/MMBtu for the gas,” Pradnyana said.

Petronas did not reply to an email on whether it had agreed to the gas price hike.

Negotiations between Malaysia and Indonesia on a higher price for gas from the offshore Natuna block B operated by ConocoPhillips has been going on since 2009.

Malaysia orders 7 oil floating storages to exit Pasir Gudang

August 17, 2011

Dateline 2011-08-01:

Malaysia’s government has ordered seven floating storage facilities anchored off the south-eastern port of Pasir Gudang to leave by the end of this month, industry sources said on Monday.

The floating storage facilities have a combined capacity to hold about 1.9 million tonnes of crude or fuel oil.

These players must find alternative homes for their vessels either at nearby Tanjong Pelepas – also a floating storage hub – Indonesia’s Karimun island, or in international waters.

Some could destock their cargoes and exit the floating storage market, due to higher costs at the alternative locations, they added.

From Bloomberg – Malaysia’s Tapis Oil Price to Increase as London Brent Gains

August 16, 2011

Dateline 2011-08-01:

Malaysia’s official selling price for Tapis crude, a benchmark contract in the Asia-Pacific region, is set to rise for the first time in three months, reflecting a rebound in London-traded Brent futures.

The low-sulfur, or sweet, crude will be set at $123.38 a barrel for July, up 1.2 percent from June, according to a Bloomberg News calculation based on a trade formula. State-owned Petroliam Nasional Bhd., or Petronas, will announce the price today, said a company official who asked not to be identified because of internal rules.

Brent crude futures climbed 3.8 percent in July, snapping a two-month losing streak, as concern over the U.S. economybolstered the investment appeal of commodities. The contract for September settlement on the ICE Futures Europe exchange traded above $118 a barrel today.
