Saturday Star 2010-01-02 – Job Opportunities

January 4, 2010

First off, if you need my help to submit your CVs, donate to the blog, and I’ll review your CV to see if it is worthy of my (and my associates’) expectations. If you can’t figure out how to donate, expect to be mocked.

  • First off, Synergy is looking for lead safety engineers, safety specialists, junior and lead process engineers and technical writers. We’re on an expansion drive, people! Visit the Synergy website for contact details. For leads, you need 5 years plus experience. Ah, heck. If you have more than 5 years experience in O&G, apply. If you have less than 5, send a donation to the offshore account, and still get abuse. For juniors, go pick up a copy of Cambridge’s ChemEng syallabus, and go study like the Tripods (all of them) are tomorrow.
  • SynergyKL is also looking for temp admin staff.
  • Our favourite Saudi recruiter, SABIC, is at it again. Ibn Zahn is looking for a pp(??) process sectio head, control system engineer, rotating equipment eng, inspection & corrosion eng, enviroment engineer and process engineer.  You can apply via email here or here. Or key in your resumes online here.

Here’s a place to eat: Bandar Djakarta, Alam Sutera, Serpong, Tangerang, Indonesia. Invite me along if you do go.

News – Award of Cendor FEED to DPS

December 27, 2009

Since the news is now on DPS’ webpage, I can safely congratulate them on their win, and encourage them to send runoffs and spillovers Synergy’s way:

DPS have been awarded a FEED study by Petrofac for the Phase II development of the Cendor field in Malaysia. The FEED scope includes the engineering of a spread moored FPSO (topsides, marine, mooring and risers) plus three wellhead platforms and the infield pipelines. The FEED will also look at the removal of the existing MOPU and the installation of the new facilities with minimal production downtime.

News – Award of Malikai to MMC-Amec

November 29, 2009

I know that this is old news, but I didn’t want to be chased by lawyers and phrases such as non-disclosure, confidentiality undertaking, and so forth. The news has already broken here.

Congratulations to MMC-Amec for winning the Shell Malikai FEED contract. I wish you all the best, and hope that any spillover will come my way. Cheques to Synergy Oil & Gas Engineering Sdn Bhd, please.

From The Star: Exxon and Coca-Cola to invest in Malaysia

November 28, 2009

Dateline 2009-11-14:

SINGAPORE: Two American companies are expected to make substantial investments in the local beverage and gas sectors soon.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said petroleum firm ExxonMobil Corporation had expressed its intention to venture into high CO2 content gas extraction while beverage giant Coca-Cola wanted to build a new modern plant in Malaysia.

Hah, here’s a funny one. ExxonMobil will be extracting CO2. Coca-Cola products are carbonated, which means they require a CO2 source in the future. What is that upcoming CO2 extraction source, I wonder?

I predict the next Coca-Cola plant will be in Kertih. What say you? “Beverage and gas sectors’ indeed.

BTW, I’ll be in Miri next week. Any more eating place suggestions?

IEM Shout Out – Maximising Value Creation Through Value Improvement Program

November 18, 2009

This is a shout out for the IEM. My Technical Division will hosting the above seminar on the 21st November. It’ll be at 9:30 am (makan-makan at 9:00) at Wisma IEM. That’s right people, as part of the new health drive you are required to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get your 2 CPD points.

This presentation outlines the techniques and process for achieving such optimisation by presenting case studies of five Value Improvement Program (VIP) in Petronas operating unit. This covers oil, gas and petrochemical businesses. Improvement opportunities were identified throughout the complexes with the feedstock interface yielding the largest profit gains. The program continues, but to date more than 50 opportunities have been implemented, from which the benefits has exceeded RM 50 million.

Lots of interesting monetary figures being bandied about in the blurb. Come and listen, and see if the speaker walks the talk.

The talk will be led by En. M. Taufik bin Mokhtar. En. Taufik obtained his masters degree from Imperial College, London, UK. En Taufik has 9 years of working experience in Petronas. His work experience includes plant operations and project management and provision of technical support services. He has led Value Improvement Program in various PETRONAS operating units and has helped the implementation of the program in five different plants in Kertih and Kuantan areas with success. Currently, En. Taufik is Staff Engineer in Group Technology Solutions, Research and Technology Division of PETRONAS.

Fliers for the above and other events may be obtained here. A map to Wisma IEM is presented here. It’s the building identified as ‘Puteri Nursing College.’

Exxon – Poster Booboo

October 13, 2009

ExxonMobil Malaysia is usually top notch when it comes to posters, presentations and all other pictorial forms of communication. That why this poster amuses me so much:

ExxonMobil - Perpetual Energy Machine

Let’s see now, on average I travel 60km a day, yet using the recommended grade of motor oil, I can gain up to 250 miles (400 km) per day. Why isn’t my tank overflowing with the 340km worth of petrol  I can gain per day? Or is this based on someone who travels 20,000 km per day?
