From The Star – Don says Johor coastline has good O&G potential

I don’t think he meant you should be conducting 2-D seismic studies in the area, though.

Those of you who have been and didn’t like Teluk Ramunia in the past, I believe the place has gotten better. Has the highway to JB been opened yet? Has Desaru come back to life?

Taken from the Star, dateline 2010-10-21:

Teluk Ramunia and Pengerang in south-east Johor have the potential to be a new regional oil and gas (O&G) hub.Professor Dr Ariffin Samsuri, dean at the Faculty of Petroleum and Renewable Energy Engineering (FPREE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, said more feasibility studies needed to be conducted on the potential exploration activities in those areas.

He said the coastlines at the east of the peninsula, stretching from the Thailand-Kelantan border to Pengerang, offered opportunities for O&G-related activities.

Ariffin said the stretch could be the country’s newest O&G reserve fields, as many parts of the areas were not totally explored except off-Terengganu waters.

“The Teluk Ramunia and Pengerang areas will benefit from the O&G-related activities and could be like Kerteh in Terengganu,” he told a press conference at the opening of the two-day O&G Symposium 2010, jointly organised by FPREE and the Society of Petroleum Engineers UTM Student Chapter, on Tuesday.
