Shell Malaysia has started construction of the largest upstream oil and gas (O&G) laboratory in Sarawak for deepwater exploration and production activities.

It will be operational by the end of 2016.

Sarawak Shell Bhd general manager Chok Chee Tsong said the new building showcased the company’s commitment in continuing to invest in the O&G industry in Sarawak and in Malaysia.
He was speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the building by state Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s office (Promotion of Technical Education), Datuk Len Talif in Miri today.


Shell expresses confidence in Malaysia

Shell Malaysia has expressed its continued confidence in Malaysia as an important market for the company, noting it is the most successful country in the Shell Group for exploration.

Chairman Iain Lo said despite the current challenging global economic landscape and lower crude oil prices, the company successfully made and participated in 10 discoveries, during its exploration campaign from mid 2013 to 2014.

 


Shell, Petronas Carigali to Develop E6 Field Offshore Sarawak

Royal Dutch Shell plc and the upstream division of Malaysia’s national oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad’ (Petronas) Petronas Carigali recently took the final investment decision (FID) to develop E6 field, offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, local news agency Bernama reported Wednesday .

The E6 field, discovered in 1970, will be the last field to be developed under the SK308 Production Sharing Contract (PSC).

The development concept leverages on existing infrastructure by evacuating gas from E6 to the E8 platform located around 10 miles (16 kilometers) away and crude oil to D35 located 41 miles (66 kilometers) away.


Shell, Petronas Carigali to develop E6 field offshore Malaysia

Shell and Petronas Carigali recently took the final investment decision (FID) to develop the E6 field, offshore Malaysia.
 Discovered in 1970, the E6 field is the last field to be developed under the SK308 production sharing contract. SK308 is about 200km offshore Sarawak.
A joint statement issued on Wednesday said the development concept leverages on existing infrastructure by evacuating gas from E6 to the E8 platform located 16km away and crude oil to D35 located 66km away.
Shell Malaysia chairman Iain Lo said: “The development of the E6 field further strengthens Shell’s position in Malaysia. It will enable Shell to sustain gas supply to Malaysia LNG Tiga Plant and produce crude oil concurrently by 2017.”

 


Shell starts oil production from Gumusut-Kakap deep-water platform in Malaysia

Shell has started oil production from the Gumusut-Kakap floating platform off the coast of Malaysia, the latest in a series of Shell deep-water projects.

The Gumusut-Kakap field is located in waters up to 1,200 metres (3,900 feet) deep. The platform is expected to reach an annual peak oil production of around 135,000 barrels a day, once fully ramped up. With oil production now under way, work on the gas injection facilities is continuing with an expected start-up during 2015.

“We are delighted to have reached this milestone with our partners,” said Andrew Brown, Shell Upstream International Director, “Gumusut-Kakap is our first deep-water development in Malaysia, and uses the best of Shell’s global technology and capabilities in deep water. The field is one of a series of substantial deep-water start-ups this year, driving returns and growth for shareholders.”

 


Shell finds more gas off Malaysia

Oil major Shell today said it had found more gas at a block offshore Malaysia where it drilled a successful well earlier this year.

The energy firm made the gas discovery in 800m-deep water at its Marjoram-1 well, 180km off the Malaysian coast in Block SK318.

Shell announced in April its first successful gas find in this new drilling area.

“Our strategy to expand our heartland areas through technologically advanced exploration is delivering tangible success in deep-water in Malaysia,” said Andrew Brown, Shell’s director of international upstream.


Shell, Petronas expand Baram Delta terms to include gas rights

Petronas, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell Malaysia have expanded the terms of the 2011 Baram Delta (BDO) production sharing contract (PSC) for enhanced oil recovery projects (EOR) offshore Sarawak (2011 Baram Delta EOR PSC) to include gas rights.

With the signing of the Heads of Agreement (HOA) for Baram Delta Gas Gathering Project 2 (BARDEGG2), associated and non-associated gas rights linked with the Baram Delta Operations will be incorporated into the 2011 Baram Delta EOR PSC, said Shell Malaysia in a statement on Thursday.

The Tukau Timur field, previously part of the SK307 PSC, will also be integrated into the 2011 Baram Delta EOR PSC enabling non-associated gas to be developed as part of a single integrated development project.


Shell Announces Malaysia Deep-Water Gas Discovery

Shell RDS.A -0.57% RDS.B -0.62% today announced an exploration discovery offshore Malaysia. The successful ‘Rosmari-1’ well is located 135 kilometres offshore in Block SK318, and was drilled to a total depth of 2,123 metres. The well encountered more than 450 metres of gas column. With further exploration planned, the finding is a positive indicator of the gas potential in an area of strategic interest for Shell.

“Rosmari-1 is a testament to our ability to successfully drill and build understanding of new geology within our existing exploration heartlands, adding value to our existing assets in Malaysia,” said Andy Brown, Director Shell Upstream International. “We are expanding and rejuvenating heartlands across our exploration portfolio, including in Brunei, Australia and the Gulf of Mexico.”


OTCA Shows Strong Interest From Major Oil & Gas Players In Investing In Malaysia

The recently concluded Offshore Technology Conference Asia 2014 (OTCA) showed strong interest from major oil and gas (O&G) players towards investing in Malaysia.

RHB Research in a research note today said among the players were UK-based Petrofac Ltd, Talisman Malaysia Ltd, Murphy Sarawak Oil Co Ltd and Shell Malaysia.

The research house said Talisman Malaysia which was granted a progressive volume based (PVB) production-sharing contract (PSC) for its Kinabalu oil fields, wants to boost the improved oil recovery potential and reap synergies from the Samarang project, off Sabah.

The oil company is also looking at extension acreage for its SB309/310 field, off Sabah, with three to four well exploration programmes this year and boost the recovery rate of its 41 per cent-operated Block PM3 CAA, offshore Peninsular Malaysia to 40 per cent from 30 per cent, it added.
