Sabah has made the right decision by acquiring a 10 per cent stake in Liquefied Natural Gas Sdn Bhd 9 (LNG 9) in Bintulu, Sarawak as it will boost its coffers for development, Chief Minister Musa Aman said.

Thanking Prime Minister Najib Razak and Petronas for making the offer, Musa said this proved the federal government had Sabah’s best interests at heart.

“Proceeds from the equity will increase our coffers and can be used to develop the state,” he told reporters when opening the Ranau Umno division meeting here today.

Chief Minister Musa Aman’s move to use bloggers to stoke discussions on Sabah’s oil and gas rights is a cowardice act, even if it is merely to gauge the federal government’s receptiveness, said political maverick Jeffrey Kitingan.

“It is not proper and transparent governance. The suggestion (to use bloggers to fight his battles) came up after he (Musa) refused to discuss the matter in depth during assembly.

“The Chief Minister should realise that it is not wrong for him and the state government to demand for ownership of Petronas.

Musa, who is also state Finance Minister, said the good relationship between the state and federal governments also benefited Sabahans through large allocations which helped to propel the state forward.

Dateline 2012-08-07:

Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman’s reluctance to push the envelope on oil royalties and demand more of its wealth back from the federal government is puzzling Sabahans in and the opposition here.

Sabah receives a “ridiculous” 5% royalty and despite its natural wealth, is today the poorest state in Malaysia and relies on federal government handouts.
