MISC adds two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax vessels to its fleet

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): MISC Bhd’s petroleum and product shipping arm, AET, has inked shipbuilding contracts for two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax vessels, adding to its growing dual-fuel fleet operating worldwide.

The deal marks a “significant step forward” in its energy transition strategy, the international maritime conglomerate said in a press release late on Friday. It did not state the contract value.

The two vessels will operate under long-term time charter party agreements.


PETRONAS ropes in Jefferies for sale of non-core assets

PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is understood to be looking to hive off non-core assets, which may include marginal oilfields, sources familiar with the matter tell The Edge.

It is understood that the national oil company has sought the assistance of Jefferies Financial Group Inc to help sell its assets, which are located around the country. “I know Jefferies is running a process for Petronas,” says a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.


PETRONAS forays into Guyana in South America with Block S4 offshore award

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 12): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has forayed into Guyana after securing Block S4, a shallow-water offshore exploration area in the South American nation.

Its wholly owned subsidiary Petronas Energy Guyana Sdn Bhd, together with its consortium partners TotalEnergies EP Guyana Shallow SAS and QatarEnergy, has signed a petroleum agreement with the government of Guyana.

TotalEnergies will operate the block with a 40% stake, while QatarEnergy holds 35% and Petronas 25%, according to a statement on Wednesday. 


T7 Global unit wins oil and gas contract extension from Hibiscus

KUALA LUMPUR: T7 Global Bhd’s subsidiary Tanjung Offshore Services Sdn Bhd has secured a contract extension from Hibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia Ltd to continue providing maintenance, construction and modification (MCM) services for the PM3-CAA project.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, T7 Global said the contract extension is for a six-month period, commencing from June 19 until Dec 18, 2025.


Vantris Energy Appoints Industry Veteran Rohaizad As Executive Director

Vantris Energy Berhad has appointed Rohaizad bin Darus, a seasoned industry leader with more than three decades of experience in the global oil and gas sector, as its Non-Independent, Non-Executive Director, effective 17 November 2025.

Rohaizad, 60, previously served as President and Executive Director of Velesto Energy Berhad before retiring. Velesto is one of Malaysia’s largest offshore drilling and oilfield services companies and a major contractor to Petronas and other national and international oil companies.


Setback at ChemOne’s US$5.3 bil Pengerang project, sources say

A proposed downstream petrochemicals facility to be developed by Singapore-based ChemOne Group in Pengerang, Johor, is experiencing a setback in achieving financial close, sources say, due to potential cost escalation on the part of its construction partner.

The US$5.32 billion (RM22.3 billion) project is considered one of the handful of major investments in the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), Malaysia’s largest petrochemicals hub.


Petronas going large offshore Malaysia

Malaysia’s national upstream company Petronas Carigali is lining up more exploration drilling targets for as early as 2026, with several newly revealed prospects offshore Peninsular Malaysia on its radar.

The operator is preparing this week to commence a marine geohazards survey over four prospects in the South China Sea off the coast of Terengganu. The proposed wildcats are Geranium-1, Balsam-1, Palas Deep and Guntong Deep, according to Malaysia’s Marine Department (Jabatan Laut). The survey, which will be performed by the Malaysia-flagged multi-purpose vessel MW Cassandra No 5, is scheduled for completion on 19 December.


Shell begins oil production from Phase 4 of Sabah deepwater project

KUALA LUMPUR (March 7): Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd (SSPC), a subsidiary of Shell plc, has begun oil production from Phase 4 of the Gumusut-Kakap-Geronggong-Jagus East (GKGJE) deepwater offshore project.

The production is directed to the Gumusut-Kakap Semi-submersible Floating Production System off Sabah.

Located in water depths of 1,200 metres, Gumusut-Kakap was the first deepwater project for Shell in Malaysia and began production in 2014.


Malaysia: PETRONAS and Putrajaya Holdings ink agreement to develop PETRONAS Geoscience Technology Centre

PETRONAS, local partner declare Suriname’s gas project commercially viable

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 14): Petronas said on Friday that a natural gas project in Suriname has been declared as viable commercially.

The declaration of commerciality of the Sloanea field in Block 52 with its South American partner Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV marks the project’s readiness for development, the national oil-and-gas company officially known as Petroliam Nasional Bhd said in a statement.

The declaration “affirms the field’s economic feasibility towards its development and commercialisation”, said Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman, the vice-president of Petronas’ international upstream assets.
