Malaysia’s state energy firm Petronas has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oman’s OQ Exploration and Production New Ventures (OQEP) to jointly explore oil and gas opportunities across the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The agreement, signed through Petronas’ subsidiary Carigali International Ventures, sets a framework for collaboration that combines Petronas’ international upstream experience with OQEP’s regional expertise to unlock new growth opportunities and accelerate value creation in multiple markets.


Viridien to Shed More Light on Malaysia’s Offshore Oil and Gas Potential

Viridien, in partnership with Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), a unit of Petronas, is finalizing an integrated geological study aimed at uncovering new exploration opportunities in the underexplored Langkasuka Basin in the Malacca Strait, off the west coast of Malaysia.

The insights generated will provide explorers with a competitive advantage by better informing their licensing and investment decisions, according to Viridien.

The 38,000 sq km study is scheduled for delivery in November 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR: A dark tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a US-sanctioned Russian export plant has positioned itself for a rare open-water fuel transfer off the coast of Malaysia, satellite images show, in a demonstration of the increasingly circuitous routes taken by Moscow to evade Western restrictions.

The Perle, which was sanctioned by the US earlier this year, is currently anchored parallel to another vessel approximately 90km east of the Malaysian peninsula, according to Sentinel-2 satellite images taken Oct 18 and earlier ship-tracking data.


Thirty-six Putra Heights residents take Petronas Gas, govt, developers to court over gas explosion

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 18): Thirty-six owners, occupiers and tenants who were affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion that destroyed numerous homes and injured more than 150 people have filed a civil suit against five parties, including the Malaysian government.

The suit was filed on Oct 17 at the Shah Alam High Court in Selangor.


RINA Wins FEED Contract for Petronas’ Flagship CCS Project in Malaysia

Italian classification and marine engineering consultancy RINA has secured a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract by Petronas CCS Ventures (PCCSV) for the Southern Onshore Facilities of Malaysia’s flagship carbon capture and storage (CCS) project.

The award follows the successful completion of pre-FEED services in 2024. Under the contract, RINA will advance engineering for the Southern onshore CO2 receiving terminal in Peninsular Malaysia, designed to receive carbon dioxide from multiple domestic and international industrial emitters before transporting it for offshore geological storage.

As a result, the exact timing of drilling operations remains unknown.


Petronas Dividend for Malaysia Set to Sink as Oil Prices Decline

The contribution of national energy giant Petronas to Malaysia’s budget is expected to crash by 38% next year, to the lowest level since 2017, amid falling oil prices.

Petronas is set to pay to Malaysia $4.7 billion (20 billion Malaysian ringgit) in 2026, down from $7.6 billion (32 billion ringgit) it is contributing this year, the Finance Ministry said in its 2026 budget on Friday.
