KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 23): PETRONAS Gas Bhd said on Monday it is paying up to US$173.64 million (RM705.67 million) cash upfront for 18 years of jetty fees at its Pengerang liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in a one-off deal to reduce its exposure to currency fluctuations.

The ringgit rose to a five-year high against the US dollar at 4.0645 on Tuesday.

PETALING JAYA: SumiSaujana Group Bhd, a manufacturer of oil and gas specialty chemicals, announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, SumiSaujana TCM Chemicals Sdn Bhd, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), SPCI HELM Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Denmark-based Topsoe A/S to jointly explore the development of a wet gas sulphuric acid (WSA) facility at one of KPI’s refinery units in Indonesia.

TotalEnergies to Power Google Data Center Operations in Malaysia

TotalEnergies SE has signed a 21-year agreement with Google to supply the tech giant 20 megawatts or one terawatt hours (TWh) of certified renewable electricity from the planned Citra Energies solar plant in the Malaysian province of Kedah.

Scheduled to start construction “early 2026”, the project will serve Google’s data center operations in the Southeast Asian country, a joint statement said. TotalEnergies owns 49 percent in the project, with MK Land holding 51 percent.


MidOcean completes acquisition of 20% of PETRONAS’ key entities in Canada

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 18): MidOcean Energy, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) company formed and managed by EIG, has completed the acquisition of a 20% interest in Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (PETRONAS) key entities in Canada.

The transaction includes a 20% stake in the North Montney Upstream Joint Venture, which holds PETRONAS’ upstream investment in Canada, and a 20% interest in the North Montney LNG Ltd Partnership, which holds PETRONAS’ 25% participating interest in the LNG Canada project.


Malaysia eyes UCO, POME export curbs to secure feedstock for SAF push

Malaysia is considering restricting exports of used cooking oil and palm oil residues as part of a broader strategy to secure feedstock supplies for its emerging sustainable aviation fuel sector, senior government officials said, according to local media reports.

Malaysia is targeting the production of nearly 1 million metric tons/year of SAF by 2028, underpinned by two domestic facilities, Plantation and Commodities Minister Johari Abdul Ghani told the upper house of the Malaysian Parliament Dec. 15.

Velesto Energy to sell Naga 3 jack-up drilling rig for RM258.4m, expects RM17.1m gain

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 16): Oil and gas services provider Velesto Energy Bhd is selling its jack-up drilling rig, Naga 3, for a total cash consideration of US$63.0 million (RM258.4 million) as part of a fleet optimisation exercise.

Velesto said the proposed disposal is expected to result in a pro forma gain of RM17.1 million, after accounting for estimated expenses, contingencies and tax.


TotalEnergies forges new partnership with PTTEP

French supermajor TotalEnergies has struck another partnership in Malaysia following completion of its acquisition of SapuraOMV last December and the purchase of multiple assets from Petronas Carigali in June this year.

TotalEnergies and PTTEP on Tuesday confirmed they had closed a deal for the French operator to divest a 9.998% indirect interest in its producing Block SK 408 offshore Sarawak, East Malaysia, to the Thai upstream player.
