Dateline 2025-03-10, Offshore Engineer:

Sabah Shell Petroleum Company (SSPC), a subsidiary of Shell, has produced first oil from Phase 4 of the Gumusut-Kakap-Geronggong-Jagus East (GKGJE) deepwater development off Malaysia.

The Phase 4 production is flowing to the existing Gumusut-Kakap Semi-submersible Floating Production System (GK-Semi FPS) located off the coast of Sabah, offshore Malaysia where SSPC is the operator.

The GKGJE Phase 4 development includes a subsea tie-back that straddles the Malaysia – Brunei border and involves the drilling of three producer wells and one water injection well.

Located in water depths of 1,200 meters, Gumusut-Kakap was the first deepwater project for Shell in Malaysia and began production in 2014.

PETALING JAYA: Research houses are pessimistic on Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd’s earnings outlook because of the Petronas-Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) dispute.

The Sarawak-based oil and gas (O&G) services provider is already facing some fallout from the uncertainties arising from the impasse. Its net profit for the second quarter ended June 30 (Q2 FY2025) plunged 41.7% to RM76.6 million from RM131.4 million a year ago.

Q2 revenue tumbled 41.4% to RM267.4 million from RM455.8 million a year earlier. The drop off was attributed to lower vessel utilisation rates caused by a delay in oil majors’ contract commencement.

Hibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia has signed a heads of agreement (HoA) with PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corp .(PVEP), the company reported in an Aug. 22 press release.

The agreement covers the proposed connection of production from PVEP’s Block 46/13 production sharing contract (PSC) offshore Vietnam to existing facilities in the Hibiscus-operated PM3 Commercial Arrangement Area (CAA) PSC offshore Peninsular Malaysia. PVEP, along with Petronas, is also a partner in the PM3 concession.

The HoA outlines terms for the tie-in engineering and construction program as well as product handling arrangements, which would allow Block 46/13 production to be processed at the Hibiscus-operated facilities. Terms include a commercial framework concerning production handling and cost allocation for Block 46/13.

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 25): Petronas and its Sarawak state counterpart will have one month to negotiate gas supply rights after the court adjourned a hearing on the dispute on Monday.

The joint request for adjournment was granted “to allow the ongoing negotiations between the parties to continue”, the national oil company also known as Petroliam Nasional Bhd said in a statement.

“The parties are still involved in discussions with an aim of bringing matters to resolution,” the statement said.
