Perdana Petroleum delivers best ever performance

AFTER three consecutive years of net losses, Perdana Petroleum Bhd is now having some time in the sun. The provider of offshore marine services for the upstream oil and gas (O&G) industry has seen some positive numbers for the last three financial years. 

In fact, its most recent numbers are its best ever. The company has posted a net profit of RM146 million for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FY24), more than three-fold compared to the year before and close to 13 times compared to FY21.

95% of Sarawak’s oil revenue went to Petronas, says state’s ex-AG

PETALING JAYA: About 95% of revenue generated from Sarawak’s oil and gas resources has gone to Petronas, with the Bornean state only receiving RM49 billion for nearly 50 years, according to a former Sarawak attorney-general.

JC Fong, legal adviser to the state government, said the sum of RM49 billion channelled to Sarawak might seem substantial but was a small portion of the value of its oil and gas resources.

Oil and gas sector to gain 500 engineers

PETALING JAYA: The oil and gas industry in Malaysia is set to have another 500 engineers in their workforce within a year under a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MOU).

This deal was established between the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Asia Pacific (M) Sdn Bhd.

It will provide specialised training programmes to upskill and reskill Malaysian engineers and those in the industry so that Malaysia can become a regional hub for technical expertise and energy innovation.

Lower Petronas spending hits oil and gas services players’ results

KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) capital expenditure (capex) dip in the first half of 2025 (1H25) has affected local oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) players.

Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB) said the national oil company’s total capex stood at RM17.7 billion in 1H25, down 31 per cent year-on-year (YoY).

This led to lower earnings from local OGSE companies for the period under review compared to 1H24.

Petronas returns to Malaysia offshore discovery

Malaysia’s national upstream company Petronas Carigali is set to imminently spud an appraisal well targeting the 2023 Bendai gas discovery on Block SK 306 offshore Sarawak, East Malaysia.

PV Drilling’s jack-up rig PV Drilling VI has been lined up for the delineation well, which is expected to take until 24 October to complete.

The drilling operation is being supported by two Malaysia-flagged vessels — SK Prelude and Setia Jihad, both large anchor-handling tug supply vessels, according to Veson Nautical’s VesselsValue.
