On 23 August 2022, Petronas informed it kicked off the development of a gas delivery facility at Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu, that will, from next year, supply natural gas to SPSB and SEB.
The Bintulu Additional Gas Sales Facility (BAGSF-2) is designed with a capacity to deliver up to 390 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd).
The facility will deliver 160 MMscfd of LNG to a Sarawak Government-owned methanol plant, which will be operated by SPSB. The methanol plant is currently under construction at Tanjung Kidurong. Another 70 MMscfd will be supplied to Sarawak Energy Bhd’s Tanjung Kidurong Power plant. The remaining capacity will allow the facility to supply future customers.

Two oil and gas firms have yet to pay the RM97 million in state sales and service tax (SST) on petroleum products owed to Sabah, says the state’s second finance minister Masidi Manjun.
According to The Borneo Post, the two firms are Repsol Oil and Gas Ltd and SEA Hibiscus Sdn Bhd. Masidi reportedly said there was no problem with the other oil and gas companies operating in Sabah as they had been paying the SST on time.
He added that Sabah would be able to rake in RM1.2 billion annually if all of the firms had paid the SST on time.

Sarawak needs more chemical engineers to support the state’s petrochemical industry, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
He said expertise in the field would be needed for Sarawak especially with two proposed petrochemical investments in Bintulu.
“There are two proposed investments (coming into Sarawak) with each valued at US$6 billion on the separation of gas which is a complicated process.
“Therefore with these investments coming in, we need a lot of chemical engineers in Sarawak,” he said in his speech at the Sarawak Branch Institution of Engineers (IEM) annual dinner here, last night.

Rosmari-Marjoram is a proposed sour gas field development located in Block SK318, offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.
Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB), a Malaysian subsidiary of Shell, has 75% ownership and is the operator of the gasfield. Petronas subsidiary Petronas Carigali holds a 15% stake in the field while Brunei Energy Exploration owns the remaining 10% stake. The estimated investment in the project is $1bn.

According to the faculty’s website, the Diploma in Process Engineering (Oil and Gas Operations) is a three-year programme, which mainly covers the midstream activities in the oil and gas industry.

Yet more on the targeted approach to fuel subsidy being planned by the government. Earlier this week, finance minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that a mechanism for targeted subsidy is being tested, and that the system would be trialled for between three to six months before it is implemented.
Now, a potential method that might be employed for the format has been indicated, and it comes in the form of e-wallets. This was revealed by Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, deputy secretary-general for policy of the treasury at the ministry of finance.

The oil and gas industry in Sabah will prioritise the people from the state in terms of employment, said state Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
“As long as Sabah has skilled workers, they will be given priority. Since early last year, all non-Sabahan workers must apply for work permits.
“If there are skilled people in Sabah, we will recruit them,” he said in a question-and-answer session at the state assembly here.
