Analysts: No major changes from Petronas’ cautious approach

December 7, 2017

In other words: those with connections, are embiggened, those without, change a few letters.

Dateline 2017-10-24, Borneo Post:

Analysts expect no significant changes from Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) cautious approach to upstream exploration and development expenditures .

According to AmInvestment Bank Bhd (AmInvestment Bank), persistently low asset utilisation levels are anticipated for the medium term in the oil and gas sector as the research firm did not expect any significant change in Petronas’ cautious approach to upstream exploration and development expenditures.

AmInvestment Bank noted that for the second quarter of 2017 (2Q17) to date, contract awards have risen by 15 per cent quarter on quarter (q-o-q) RM2.2 billion largely due to the lumpy award of the RM1 billion Bokor central processing platform project to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd (MMHE).

PIPC to garner RM8.3 billion income by 2020

December 5, 2017

So… where does 1MDB fit into this? Note that these are investments, not projected profit, so in theory, much easier to (ahem) integrate the funds into strategic investments to sustain interest by unnamed persons of interest.

Dateline 2017-10-24, NST:

Investments in the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) are expected to generate RM8.3 billion to the country’s Gross National Income (GNI) by 2020.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said of the amount, the Petronas’s Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) would be the biggest contributor in the oil and gas hub.

“PIPC is a strategically important project for the government. PIC, which I consider as the heart of the PIPC, will play a role to encourage new growth under the country’s Economic Transformation Programme.

Saturday Star 2017-12-02 – Job Opportunities

December 4, 2017

Happy trying to go on vacation week. IGL has pivoted into training, so book your seats now.

We’re thinking of republishing Young Turks of PETRONAS, but it’s a minimum 500 book printing run. Do I have enough interested persons to purchase?

Donate to your favorite charity (me), buy my recommendations, or through my Amazon store. Or get the Young Turks series (3 books until I can get YTP republished). Where are those corporate sponsors? Or throw donations at me, my camera dive case flooded, and I need a new replacement. Heck, if you want to send me a Canon 5D Mk III plus dive case, I will not say no.

  • I have a feeling that The Star isn’t the preferred O&G job recruitment portal now, and they have moved adverts to another online presence (I bought a dead tree edition this week). I see more adverts via social media. What do you think, is it a step change that the papers need to embrace?
  • I’m looking for jobs for 1Q2018. Send me your POs.

Food choice of the week? Support your local mee bandung.

S’wak BN slams Mahathir over oil rights comment

November 14, 2017

Dateline 2017-09-26, FMT:

A senior official in the Sarawak Barisan Nasional has criticised Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his comments on the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) and the unfavourable terms it gives to the state.

Tan Kai, who is a political secretary to Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg, called out the Pakatan Harapan chairman over his reasons for not repealing the PDA in his 22-year tenure as prime minister.

“Mahathir could have easily repealed PDA if he thought that it was not fair to Sarawak, as he had a two-thirds majority all the time,” Tan said in a statement yesterday.

Mahathir, who is also PPBM chairman, had reportedly said that his hands were tied as the PDA was drafted and approved before his time as prime minister, hence he could not do anything about the oil royalty and funds to be given to Sarawak.

‘Petronas exploring new energy avenues’

November 13, 2017

Does this affect the spirit of amanah PETRONAS is given in the Petroleum Development Act 1974?

Dateline 2017-09-26, NST:

PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is considering venturing into renewable energy (RE) to stay relevant in the global energy industry, said president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

Petronas could venture into solar, wind or other new energy sources, Wan Zulkiflee said, adding that the matter was in the evaluation stage.

“We are evaluating on what type of new energies are suitable for us and where we can make money. It is not a matter of just being involved in RE, or for the sake of following others who are already involved.

Petronas denies plans to lay off 5,000 employees in 2018

November 6, 2017

Sooo. how many again?

Dateline 2017-09-17, Borneo Post:

Petronas today denied an allegation made by a blogger saying that it planned to terminate 5,000 employees next year in what was claimed as another round of a “staff reduction” exercise, group-wide.

In a statement, the national oil giant company said it “categorically denied” the allegation made by blogger Syed Akbar Ali on his “OutSyed the Box” site.

It added that the group’s business review exercise, conducted last year, had affected 2,300 jobs as previously announced and there was currently no plan to undertake another exercise of that scale.
