Oil and gas finally paying off for Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: For generations, Sabah’s fortunes had first been dictated by timber, followed by oil palm and tourism. Now the oil and gas sector, notably LNG and gas-fired power plants, have taken precedence, fuelling industries, creating jobs and providing a steady revenue stream. But as the world’s energy priorities shift, Sabah is charting a new course – one that still leverages its petroleum strengths but places increasing emphasis on renewable resources, the Blue Economy and a groundbreaking new frontier: Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (Otec).
